exercise is key we have the same exact problems but we walk and run our dog multiple times a day. we also crate him if many people are coming over and he sometimes gets calming treats in the late afternoon when there's an energy spike despite multiple runs and walks. he is 3 this summer and he has not calmed down. |
| I won’t get a goldendoodle again. Ours is a little nutty. He is hyper, and unlike a pure golden he will growl at strangers and other dogs and acts territorial towards our other dog (although they are best friends for the most part). He is just a bit more alpha than I had realized a golden doodle could be. Of course I love him but I wouldn’t choose this breed again. I do love that he is very cuddly, loves our children and doesn’t shed. |
My goldendoodle is pretty dumb actually. |
I agree with most of this — I grew up with standard poodles, and they were very calm. However, the pp who used the term crafty was spot on. I didn’t want another poodle because I don’t want another dog that is smarter than I am. I have to say that the whole “anybody who mixes breeds is unethical” thing makes me roll my eyes. That’s how we got the vast majority of breeds we have today, and I can’t stand the people who stood by and let so many popular breeds be bred into a genetic dead end (see bulldogs (can’t breath) cavalier King Charles spaniels (heart disease), German shepherds (hips), and even golden retrievers (cancer)) lecture anyone about ethics. |
We just got a golden doodle and she is THE BEST. |
| Golden retrievers are great dogs for kids. You will need to groom them but find great mobile groomer and its easy. They are rambunctious but calm down markedly at the 1 yr mark. LOVE our goldens. |

Anecdotal. Almost all I have have met crazy, spastic energy....even still at 3, 4+ years old.
I think there is a reason the guy that started the breed regrets it. |
Mine almost NEVER does. He is 1.5 year old large breed. He sits at the window watching life go by. He will not bark when he sees other dogs or people or squirrels,....or a delivery guy comes to the door. He does a funny low guttural sound when he really wants to eat something we have (Salmon), not a growl---it sounds prehistoric, like a cat purring in some ways. |
This thread is mostly about doodles |
