OK, so fine, NAME your top 3

What earthly good would that do?

First of all, the sock puppets have figured out by now that they need to use several log-in names instead of simply posting several times under the same name.

Second, I'm willing to bet that most people are putting their kid's school somewhere in their top three -- but what if some schools have more parents here than others? For example there seem to be a lot of parents on this board from the cathedral schools and Sidwell (and my kid got into one of those two places, just saying). So the results would be weighted towards schools which are well represented, and we'll never know which those are.

Third, probably lots of people are basing their votes largely on information/rumors they've gotten from other posters here on these very boards.

The whole thing is like polling incest....

I'm not so sure on what you all are basing your top three schools on--- I have no personal bias here--- (My two sons are seven and 9 and are both enrolled in our local public elementary school)--- Recent high school poles (as of mid-September are showing that Georgetown Preparatory School is by far the most academically challenging and prestigious high school in in the entire Washington, D.C. area. In College Board's most recent release this September, Georgetown Prep holds the number one spot over St. Albans AND Landon. College Board's explanation: (Directly from the article) """Founded with Georgetown University in 1789, Georgetown Preparatory School consistently ranks among the Top 10 college preparatories in the U.S. Georgetown Prep SAT and college admission rates have always dominated the charts- most especially over the last three decades. The average SAT score of a Prep graduate is just under 2250 (out of 2400). These averages consistently rank among the highest in the nation. These scores translate in the range of 1400-1425 under the old SAT scoring system. The more popular colleges and universities of Prep's Class of 2008 include include Georgetown, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Virginia, Princeton, Duke, Notre Dame, MIT, and Columbia."""
Like I said earlier I'm just not so sure why some people consider St. Albans and Landon in the running with Prep but clearly Georgetown Prep is on a completely different level than its competition.

Interesting -- never would have guessed that from this board and I've been watching for 6 months.

Others put STA higher. Depends on what it's based on (test scores, admittance to top universities, etc). Anyway, it is strange that Georgetown Prep is rarely mentioned, which probably has to do with the parent body that posts here.

My list is so different from the majority on this board, but after looking at a number of open houses (at the K level), this is it - obviously the HS portion could change:

Elementary:
Rosemary Hills
Blessed Sacrament

High School:
Visitation
Georgetown Prep
Gonzaga

I do wish we had more parents on DCUM with kids at Georgetown Prep, Georgetown Visitation, Madeira and some others. I can't remember a single recent post from a parent with a kid at one of these schools. Even the Maret presence seems really thin (I might remember a post from a Maret parent, but I'm not sure). Broader representation would give more balance to these listings.

On the other hand, I do have to give credit to the Norwood parents, who are posting very interesting and balanced assessments of their school on another thread, but who apparently aren't trying to stack this one!

Been in 'private ed' for 40 yrs, first as student, then teacher, then admin, now--parent. What is perceived as 'top' as far as quality education, college outlook, sound academics--SIDWELL definitely leads, NCS/St. Albans, and Georgetown Prep's in the mix somewhere. But a newer school that has yet to prove itself, but definitely out-ranks many area schools in academics and facilities is Nysmith in Virginia.
But for me and my child, the 'top' three are: St. Patrick's, Lowell, & a toss up between Green Acres and Sandy Spring Friends.
