Wow, those seem like great deals for the area. I'll definitely check back into this thread.
I'm wondering what the places look like on the inside.
I delivered at VHC, so I think I know where those houses are (from driving back and forth).
Thanks.

Looks like the second one might be a mistake (wrong zip) if it is Culpeper St. S. I live right near this neighborhood - our school is also Glebe ES. Highview Park is a traditionally African American neighborhood, but it seems to be changing. More of these smaller houses are being torn down, and newer, bigger houses are replacing them. You are in a great location as the PP said - near the hospital, all the shops/restaurants of Lee Highway, close to DC, great schools. If I had to guess, I would say these places are pretty run down since the price is so low, but they may be worth checking out. It is definitely a great location with great schools.

The sf listed for these properties is the lot square footage, not the house square footage.

OP, if you're moving from St. Louis you need to seriously factor in your husband's commute, unless you're really familiar with the traffic and commuting issues here. I notice one poster who discourages Silver Spring over and over, touting Brookeville and Olney. Well, those are very different places to live and I think you have to consider whether you want something very suburban or more urban. (I have friends in Silver Spring and they chortle about the idea of moving out so far to avoid economic and ethnic diversity in their neighborhood schools, but to each his own.) Taxes also vary greatly by jurisdiction, so you will want to factor that in. And racial and economic diversity varies greatly, so you need to think about your comfort with that, too.

We bought our house in 2005 and paid 340K, we like our neighborhood, but our house is small. My children attend Private school for now, but we will be moving someday and would rather put the money into a bigger house (equity) and not a private school.
We live a couple of miles outside the beltway, the zip is 20902.
