Is Montessori Overrated?

I think part of it is that the public schools are in the news for going downhill and the Montessorians see it as their chance to finally tell people about the merits of the program and are actually getting people in the US to listen. I do think they have a lot to offer public school, but of course it goes both ways.

We left an NAEYC accredited play-based program for Montessori this year. With the NAEYC program we had issues with how the curriculum was implemented and how they handled discipline. We explored many options before selecting the Montessori program (we didn't go looking for a Montessori program, in other words). I think it really comes down to finding the right fit for your child. DS is very independent and active - this program encourages his curiosity, and emphasizes active/outdoor time, and so far has been a great fit.
