What's the worst gift you've gotten from your Mother-in-Law?

My sister just had a baby and has had 2 visits from her grandmother in law -- who is abominable. On the first visit, she brought an 18" tall plastic statue of the B.V.M. a sheep, and the christ child. A week later she brought over a 12" plastic statue of an angel...it lights up.

I received a care package from my in-laws with a bunch of odds and ends that were just junk really, sorry to say, and it included a can of tuna fish and beef jerky. I have been a vegetarian for 15 years.

My jewish mil gives her daughters tampons for the holidays. I was lucky enough to get panty liners.

Sure my MIL has given me some interesting gifts that are normally not my taste, but nothing that I would feel the desire to be bitter or angry about. They are of a different generation and are not "up" on the current trends. If I get a plastic toy, that is not "Melissa and Doug" steam does not start to blow out my ears. I hardly think my son's pyschological development will be in peril over it.

DH & I are much better off financially than his parents, so wish they would just save their money and just enjoy being with family on the holidays rather than get wrapped around the whole gife giving thing, but it makes them feel good, so who am I to say?
