One thing that is true for me is that the little things do count. If I can stock the house with my favorite soda, sparkling water bottles to go, coffee, and wine that I like, and if I can order some take-out that I love instead of forcing myself to cook, I feel good. It's easy. It's enjoyable. It makes drudgery feel like a break.

If you can afford it, occasionally (like, every few months) spend money on stuff you want that you normally don't buy (a new jacket, a nicer dinner with friends, an iPad, whatever).

$1500 is insane.

I'd love to spend $30 a month on coffee. Or $100 on a massage. But there is no money to spend on that.

I do read and managed to get 25 books read this summer.

Is it wrong that I can't come up with a figure? We clearly need a family budget. I have a gym membership, and get highlights every two months. Buy clothes sporadically, normally when I see an online sale. Face cream is $150, but it last me four months.

I buy running shoes every six months. I guess I could figure this out.

Are those spending 1000-1500 a month those who complain about not being able to make ends meet while making XXXK a year? Don't people find it a little excessive to spend that much?

On just myself? I ask because every now and then if it's on sale I'll splurge and make us scallops as part of dinner and we may have wine with the meal (just the adults). I also get us organic food as much as possible for us all.

Just me? Each month...

Haircuts: every few months and usually get them CHEAP

Non-permanent dye for grays- $6 (do it myself)
-every few months

Lattees: $10-$15

Clothes-don't get them every month and usually go to discount stores or during major sales.

Frozen Yogurt or other treat $4-maybe every other month
