Friend letting 4 year old watch Ironman

Anonymous
I screened movies/tv shows a lot more strictly for my younger two. They were close in age, so it was easier. With the other two, DH and I pretty much gave up. Not that I would let a 4 year old watch Iron Man, but the older ones want to watch "older kid" movies and the younger ones watch, they see things at their friend's houses, etc. Plus there are some great classic movies that have a little swearing. DH bleeps them himself hahah

Not your business.

If your DC wants to watch Superhero movies someday before you think it's appropriate and argues that his/her friend are allowed so why not him/her, here's our go-to line:

"Different families make different choices."

Good reminder to you, too, OP. MYOB.

We have friends who are very strict with their teenagers about what they can watch. Which results in their kids lying to them about what they watch at a friends house. Which results in said friends not knowing that their 14 year old son has watched Hangover, thus the parents not having an opportunity to discuss with them things like why the entire premise and outcome isn't realistic.

My kid is too young for this to be a problem yet, but my husband and I are already discussing how to straddle the line between being too permissive and strict to a point where you are hurting yourself.

We've let my 3.5 year old watch Spiderman and Superman (original). NO big deal. Would not allow him to watch Batman or Ironman.

This reminds me of when I was working at a law firm and my boss was telling us how his 12yo was too young to see Harry Potter. My 4yo had gone with his uncle to see it opening weekend.

I didn't understand why my 4yo was able to discern real from fake and pretend and understand that this was a unrealistic 'fantasy' movie about made up things. And his 12yo wasn't.
