God, you must be tons of fun to live with. Why don't you use your stellar reading comp skills and read the subject line to the post and 95% of the posts on this thread.

And why don't you try to keep up with the thread. We have moved on and are now discussing the Stanton Park/Union Station neighborhood, a neighborhood you obviously couldn't afford.

For the sake of everyone, please don't have more kids. And is your last comment supposed to be a burn? Am I supposed to be embarassed that I couldn't afford the house I own if it was located in Stanton Park? Sorry to dissapoint you.

Yes that's a rather odd insult - the "house you couldn't afford" bit.

NP here. This was an interesting thread until you showed up. "Couldn't afford?" Please go away and torment your husband with some sarcastic remarks. People are avoiding you IRL, I guarantee it.

Yes, especially since the only reason people would live in Stanton Park/Union Station is because they couldn't afford to live somewhere nicer like the Historic district of Capitol Hill or NW.

People! This bickering is ridiculous and pointless. Being nasty just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. I'm not sure if trolls are intentionally posting silly comments, but let's call it a day, ok? It's summer. Let's all freaking relax.

I'm sure that Ms. "Hill East" has a bad taste in her mouth, but it's probably not from this discussion.

Fair enough.

FWIW, I thought the Hill Rag has had a "Hill East" column running it in for several years now. I know they did back in 2004-2008, and I'm not sure they ever stopped. So I'm not sure Hill East is that new of a term.

Single guy moving to work the hill - will be living right across from rfk and eastern high as per google maps. According to maps it seems to be on the border of 'barney circle' and 'kingman park'

I plan on walking or cycling to work (about 1.5-2 miles away)

Will I be safe?

The most dangerous place i've ever lived in would be charles village/guilford in baltimore so that's my frame of reference.

I've lived a block from the Stadium-Armory metro for two years, and in that time no one I know has ever had any problems.

The neighborhood used to be seriously rough, but it has been gentrifying like crazy for years now. The area north of about C St NE or so is still "transitioning," but everything west or south is pretty heavily gentrified at this point.

Obviously, it is a city, so take basic precautions - i.e., don't walk around mindlessly talking on your cell phone and be aware when out at night - but I honestly think the vehicular traffic by the north metro entrance is the most dangerous thing you'll have to contend with.

I live a couple blocks from where you're talking about -- my husband & I have lived here since 2002 and love the neighborhood, and I feel safe enough walking to/from the Metro at all hours. (Safe enough = I grew up in a city & I acknowledge there is some risk but feel comfortable with my odds.)

The main drawback for you might be the proximity to Eastern -- my understanding is that when school gets out each afternoon, the kids can get rowdy (to the point that there's a police presence there daily as a preventive measure).

If you work from home or on a schedule that puts you walking by the school between, say, 2:30-4:30 weekdays, I might have second thoughts. (And I would be more worried about the possibility of threats/intimidation than about actual violence.) otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you for the info - sounds like i'll be fine and I'll be away from home from 6am -730pm daily so I'll miss the kids getting out of school.

Army/Navy hasn't been played in Annapolis in over 50 years, idiot.

"Hill East" is much like the rest of Crapital Hill: Easily the most over-priced and overrated 'hood in the District.

But DH's long walk to the metro and having my kid home all day with me or nanny made us feel anxious, when taking into account the relative safety of the neighborhood. It's not quite yet where we want our neighborhood to be in terms of being able to walk at night etc... Just my two cents.

Op here. Not sure where Rosedale is...? We are really looking at the 1300 to 1500 block of south Carolina SE.

I thought that Rosedale was the precious "village green", aks the upscale dog park in Cleveland Park.
