That's why we send them to summer camps. We're proud of them. The kids are begging to attend again this summer. I'll oblige. |
This ninnycompoop also believes that kids that attend summer sports camps do not belong on school sports teams! How selfish of parents to waste their fun summer days with sports. Why can't you people be happy and proud of the athletic children you have. |
Ha...Most MDs are the CEOs of prep and prepping. I should know. Most wannabe MDs failed at prepping and changed their college majors. They could not make the cut. |
Is prepping the unfair advantage or higher socioeconomic status? The latter, higher SES, affords and begets bigtime prepping with books, tutors, camps, multiple incognito attempts at all the standardized tests, successfull petitions for accommodations in schools and on standardized tests, drug abuse with "viagra" for the brain. The latter also facilitates residential zip codes with wealthier schools, better teachers and higher academically (prepped) oriented peer mix. |
Please enlighten us on what this is??? I this I can use some of it for myself! |
| Gladly, Ritalin and other assorted cocktails (pills) traditionally prescribed for a variety of "attention deficit" disorders. |
| I'm confused. Are we still talking about 1st graders? |
I don't get this. If you think that your child needs a summer course to keep up with their peers academically, then that child does not belong in AAP. I think that point is valid. My DC don't take any summer courses and are the top students in their class every year. |

I don't think they need it to keep pace -- they do it to stay ahead. And they do enjoy it.
|
| If the kids enjoy it, I have no problem with enrichment camps. Where I have a problem is the parents that drill and practice |
| Funny, why should you have a problem with parents that drill and practice? What if I had a problem with parents who go to synagogue and church where they drill and practise? Do you see how stupid and silly your remarks are? By the way, I have aproblem with parents who put their little poor children in lacrosse and swim camps at a young age? Is the sky blue? I hate that color. |

Agree completely - I somehow yawn at all those "regular americans" who feel entitled to be at the top of heap while coddling their little ones with fun and games and sports rather than high-pressure academic work. There is no rule in the real world - the global world - that says that kids shouldn't be studying hard starting in grade 1 at age 6 rather than at an older age. |
White people? |
If one's kids are truly gifted and don't require prep, drill and kill why are such parents worried about others who believe in prep, drill and kill? This choice does not interfere with the choices of gifted children. Or is the parable about the tortoise and the hare worth revisiting? The days of having it both ways are over...no more having and eating your cake at the same time (definition of entitlement). |
