While I didn't grow up there, I spent six years in school in Central New York. Wegman's is the best! Just stopped there recently for Dinsoaur BBQ sauce.
For the poster from MoCo, there's a Wegman's in Frederick on Route 15, which is shortly after you cross the I-70 interchange. |
| OP -- was it farmer cheese? |
|
Or these cheddar cheese curds with garlic -- said to be local to Western NY?

I love curd too, but it was already suggested to OP and she said that wasn't it. Signed, Pining for Curd, any time, any place

OP here. Isn't farmer cheese moist? Can't remember. The cheese I am thinking of is hard and dry. |
|
I know you said it wasn't cheddar but... what makes you so sure?
What about this white garlic cheddar from Ohio? Not so far from Buffalo? http://www.walnutcreekcheese.com/Vintage_Garlic_Cheddar_Cheese_p/100013.htm |

I will be back to update... |
Updating -- The garlic cheddar cheese is NOT the cheese I am looking for. Trying horseradish cheddar next! |
| I check back in every week- keep us posted, OP! |
