I think we are experiencing cluster flies!
Suddenly there were 20 or so near our back bay window. I watched them come from the outside or between the screens into our house. We sealed the cracks in the window. I'm totally grossed out. How did this happen?!? We've been in the house 10 years and have never experienced this. What do we do? |

| We get them. On hot days when the a/c is cranked. The hotter the day, the more flies. So usually in July/Aug. Usually only see them on the windows (mostly east facing kitchen) on the first floor. So they are easy to kill with a damp Paper Towel on the window. On a really hot day you can kill 3 and they will be replaced by 3 more in 15 minutes. It's like they know there's space available. Would love to know where they are getting in. No clue. |
| Ditto here - get a cup of alcohol (Everclear works) and leave it out near where the flies gather. The alcohol will attract the flies and within days they will all die. |
| We have notice that lately too! don't know how it gets in the house. They die if they suffocate. We trap them in containers. They don't survive more than a few hours. Or get a long napkin empty roll and swat them. |
| This is the time of year flies seem to be in the house. It sucks. |
Has happened several times already this summer. Always at least 3-4, although one day I killed like 8. Yesterday my husband and I killed two, shoulder to shoulder, on the windows and then hi-fived.
Our poor german shepherd is terrorized--I can imagine the buzzing must be super loud to him. He always retreats to basement or upstairs. |

Its nothing at all to do with a dead animal in the wall. They are cluster flies 100%. Shut all your doors and then figure out which room they are appearing in. (will be one on south side of house) and then search for a crack etc.
Our hamster escaped from her cage one night and chewed through the carpet around the skirting board and got through a gap in between floor and skirting board etc (some how we managed to coax her back up many hours later) Anyway I never did fix that hole (carpet was covering the hole previously but exposed once she chewed a hole in carpet) The summer after low and behold slow moving, dosile, fat flies everywhere in the room. Had them indentifed as cluster flies and they live in between gaps in walls etc (usually south facing as love the heat and sun) Anyway got teh hole fixed and no more flies in the room since. |
| Help! It’s happening to us!! |
What is a roof rat? |

The flies may be infected with a fungus that mummifies them.
