| It took me 3 interior designers (and sadly one very $$$$$$ mistake) to find a designer who was able to capture the look my DH and I were looking for, but unable to achieve on our own. Yes, having a gorgeous home is important to me. Perhaps it shouldn't be but it is. Thankfully, we are finally finished and we can stop the financial decorating hemorrhage from our bank acct. |
| I want my house to look nice but I also want to be functional and livable with 3 young kids. I've worked with a few interior designers and it's really hard to find one that really matches your personal style. We ended up buying some awesome furniture (higher end--Lee Industries, Henredon, Taylor King) direct from the manufacturers through lexfurniture.com. If you know what you want, buying direct can save lots of money. In short, we've been happiest when we decided to trust our own judgment re: decorating and just do it ourselves. |
| As long as you can still enjoy the house without worrying about it every day. If you keep it clean and neat and presentable, that is really all you can ask with small children. I have seen houses that are beautiful but too staged and impersonal, and I have seen slobbish houses that make me not want to sit on their furniture for fear of...something. Somewhere in between is ideal. |
I can so relate to this....and I just have a toddler and a messy husband so far. |
