Is new MCPS superintendent going to eliminate Math Acceleration in elementary schools?

And really, who preps their kids for a second grade screening test, even if you could?

You, of course. Really.

He didn't need any prep to get into elementary or MS magnet programs, thank you very much, troll.

Most kids who prep for these tests, or review the actual 60 questions, don't need to. But, they still do nevertheless you trollop.

Trollop! That's funny.

Why would he prep? I knew he didn't need to. And indeed, he didn't. Like I said, admitted to both competitive programs, and has made straight A's every year. So really, I knew we didn't need to put too much thought into getting ready for the test.

Sounds like you must have. Bummer.

Sounds like your child is as smart as mom. Congrats. Let's hope the child's intelligence doesn't wither with time.

Would you guys please stop a catfight?

My DS is in 3rd grade now in MCPS, we got results for this test at the end of last year. Honestly, I didn't even know what the test was about or when it was given. I don't think all parents get this involved in these tests. If it wasn't a joke, I am shocked that parents would look up the questions and then prep their kids. Please tell me that was a joke.

I don't want to stir up the troll again - but is it true the 60 questions are out in the public domain???? My kid got into a MS magnet with no prepping, thank you very much. But I'm curious to know if there's a little cottage industry of prepping for the magnet tests in MD, as I know there is in VA.

For whom the bell trolls.

You must be kidding with these questions?

Try using the brain you claim your children have inherited.

Either there are two trolls or the one troll is arguing with herself.

MCPS doesn't tell you which test they use for the ES magnets, but I've heard that it's the COGAT.

You can buy practice books and teach your kid how to do the tests. To be honest, this makes little sense to me. The kids I know who got in (including one of my two kids) didn't practice ahead of time. Also, I think it's kind of cruel. These programs are demanding -- why game the system and risk putting your child in a class that's not appropriate for him/her?

Prepping or practising for a test is cruelty to children.

Explains the decline of America. Lack of medical insurance for children in America is cruelty to children. This is true cruelty!

I would agree prepping or practising for tests does not constitute child cruelty. But, our country, the richest on earth, has so many children living below the poverty line and without health insurance. This is the very definition of cruelty to our children. More children in this country should prep and practise for tests...not less.

Pardon the double post. My error with the system.
