Seriously Odd Question About School Photos

Now, the school photos taken at the private preschool were charming and delightful. The ones at the DCPS elementary school (both fall and spring last year) look like they were taken of a dumpy, personality-less child we don't know. The kicker? The exact same company took the photos at both schools. I know, I know: it's hard to believe that without any economic incentive, the photographer would be phoning it in, and the end product would suck, right.

Were the photos more expensive at the private school, or the same price?

The packages are more expensive than her previous school (which used Lifetouch) and they are not the traditionally bad cheesy head-on shot. Can't decide if am disappointed not to carry on the "bad school pic" tradition or be happy with really pretty new ones. First world problems I guess.

I know this is old,but im trying to offer the Freed spirit style (pro photos) look to my schools in florida and Im trying to ge an idea of the prices of the packages?

Ours uses Freed too, and no once can believe these portraits are my kids' school photos. They are really natural, and I had a hard time choosing which proof I wanted.

Our child has been at 3 different schools, one private preschool, two DCPS. The school pictures at two out of three were great, and we got to choose before ordering (our third and current school uses Freed, which is wonderful). The one bad experience was similar to that described by OP, where we didn't get to choose. Our child's photo was in recognizable, and the class photo and many of the yearbook pictures were shockingly bad. I don't think there was much difference in terms of price, and I thought perhaps the PTA made money on the deal.

I meant to say "unrecognizable"

Our school uses Lifetouch because they do send a portion of the revenue to the school as well as provide many photos for permanent record cards, ID badges for the teachers (would do studnets but we don't require those), and upload everything to an easy to use yeabook program and provide a good cost for those. No private company has been able to match that.

Our JKLM uses freed as well- they are fantastic.

I am sorry Life-touch is a ripoff and in my opinion take horrendous photographs. Finally, our school kick that company to the curb and we are using Herff-Jones as they are highly recommended.
