The cookies are in the oven, now, what do I say?

It sounds like the building is more of the problem than the neighbors.

Agree with this. If you want to beef with someone, OP, it would be your management company/apartment owner. If the structure isn't soundproofed enough to deal with the noise of everyday life, they are the ones who should make that right.

So, I'm guessing the cookies are long done by now... have you talked to them yet?

Just came back from management office. They said all noise from appliances and electronics should not be heard by 9:30pm.

They also offered to send them a notice asking them to observe the quiet hours so I guess we'll have cookies for a snack at home

Hold on,did they say appliances had to be turned off by 9:30 or that there is to be no excessive noise after 9:30, because those are two completely different things.. for example, you may think that the people washing clothes in their washer is excessive noise, whereas normal people aren't going to consider that to be excessive. I still think that you need to get used to aprtment living instead of trying to get another family in trouble because you're inconvenienced by the fact that there are other families around you.

OP here.

They said it all had to be off by 9:30pm.

I'm used to apt living, thank you very much. That's why we picked this exact same unit. So our life style would not disturb anybody. They're clearly breaking the rules and I'm so glad I won't have to go knock on their door. Phew!

So what are you going to do about the TV? Sigh. People who expect the world to revolve around them really need to live in the boonies. Now we're going to go do P90x then retire to the bedroom to watch mad men til eleven or twelve. Thank god my neighbors aren't prissy!

PP, so I don't get accused of bugging the neighbors, they sometimes come workout with us if they aren't busy. I don't know, something about her entitled attitude is just bugging me. I predict she's also a special snowflake mom

If I had to have my TV off by 9:30 every night, I would never be able to watch adult TV, ever. And my homicidal rage would be very noisy.

I find it hard to believe that an apartment complex has rules that state washing machines and televisions must be turned off by 9:30 pm.

I cant believe nobody asked the obvious question -
How good are your cookies?
This is important.

Like any other complex, if they're on and nobody is noticing you're good. Now, if they're on at the stated hours and someone complains you must turn it off.

I would not mind if the appliances were on at 7:30, even 8:30pm. We also work and we have to juggle house work too so I know how it feels. What I can't accept is the lack of respect with the running, jumping at midnight or the washer on at 5:30 or 6am. The constant open /close of the balcony door at 2am every time they walk in to grab a beer or whatever. And sometimes they watch TV from there so the door is open and the TV is on VERY LOUD. It's so annoying!

I've heard their dishwasher on at 2am once when I was preparing my DC's medication in the kitchen and I don't care about that because the kitchen is far away from the bedrooms.

Anyways, I'm glad the rule exists and I won't have to say a word.

Oh it would be on like donkey kong if I were your neighbor. So rude to report them without even talking to them first.

OP, it really sounds like you are not cut out for apartment living.

Wait now no cookies at all AND you are reporting them? Just think the freight train of emotions they would have had reading this! They were getting cookies not too long ago and something to talk about this weekend with their friends....now, nothing but a lousy report against them.
Anonymous
Oh for crying out loud! It's not a report. It's a courtesy letter they offer to send so they don't know who's complaining abt them.

My previous company offered a "courtesy call" in the same lines. You call the front desk and tell them who's making noise and the front desk calls them asking to keep it down.

I didn't know abt this that's why I thought I had to go there and talk to them.

Problem solved.
