And if there's some sort of emergency that brings you to the hospital, you're looking at enormous bills no matter what, but no larger than if you had planned a hospital birth.

Sorry. I have to quickly dispel this statement. As PPs have mentioned, you cannot plan for everything (preeclampsia, prematurity, birth complications to either the mother or the baby, etc). So, you cannot state that the bill will be no larger than a planned hospital birth. Please, OP, realize that just as you could luck out and have a non-eventful amazing inexpensive labor and delivery, you could also "luck out" and have an amazingly eventful & expensive labor and delivery.
