All schools in this area are fantastic. I know ppl that are zoned for Arl.ScienceFocus and prefer Taylor or vice versa...and a bunch love Key. That is a non-issue as you pointed out unless your heart was set on dual-immersion or a science-math based school. [b]Then- because of the elimination of allowing 'team' transfers it would be an issue---but they are all fantastic, top-notch schools.

Yes, I think team transferring s all but done unless you have a sibling who is currently there. I also wonder what will happen with Science Focus as I feel like more and more people want that school and it is starting to get more crowded.

I wonder about Science Focus too. I do know that in the classes prior to this year there are many, many kids that aren't zoned but were 'team' or applied under lottery. This year they are limiting it to actual 'zoned' families and then if room sibling priority (a child already enrolled) takes precedence. Whether that is enough to solve it who knows. There has been a major influx of families to N.Arlington for the past 5 years...many from DC.

Yes, the projections in elementary for the next few year in N. Arlington are scary. I think the county tends to estimate on the low side, so who knows what really will happen. Science Focus is projected to go from 529 students this year, to 643 by Fall 2016. Crazy. Taylor is projected to go from 697 this coming fall to 825 by 2016.

Beverly Hills? It's not even Bethesda!

Nope, Lyon Village is not Beverley Hills. Beverley Hills is in Alexandria, VA, and the houses are a lot prettier than LV with all its hideous speedbumps, traffic circles and hubs.

GW middle and TC William's HS and a drive to the lovely amenities of Potomac Yard and Crystal city. Traffic on the pky or 110 into DC. No Metro. No walkability. No thanks. If I was giving up walkability and metro access I'd pick a suburb with better schools.

PP is right about the crap schools (we'd go private) but Beverley Hills in Alexandria is SO PRETTY. I love it. We have been waiting for the perfect house there, but we want a big one, and many of them are small, although very nice looking.
Everyone is also very friendly, unlike the meanies in LV.

Don't let dcum fool u... LV is one of the friendliest places we lived. The neighbors are always outside and always throw impromptu happy hours and parties. Parents walk to local bars and restaurants together.. Sharing sitters.

Never heard of Beverly hills Alex....but the photos do look pretty!

LVer here, and can't you walk from BH to Shirlington? Plus all those mature trees. Pity about the crap schools.

Hmmm I always wondered what I was missing by not having a front porch in LV- I definitely need to watch out for the trains of 30/40-somethings gleefully leaving their kids in a babysitter-assisted pile and heading out to show the hipsters who's neighborhood it really is... at 5:30...
