We're not rich and our daughter is going to Holton (lower school). She says it is "okay," but "yawn" because not academic enough. I don't hear a lot of other parents complaining about that. She does some outside work, which she shares with some of her teachers, though. She really enjoys being able to bring that part of herself to school and find it is appreciated. She just wishes that she could do more of that advanced work IN school.

We considered Visitation, but it seemed to have too many religion-based (Christianity) classes required, or maybe we just read the schedules/program wrong.

Why would you send her to a school that does not challenge her or where she is bored? I am sure you could have found other schools, perhaps a gifted program t would meet her needs? I will say this, she may be bored now but it will get MUCH more challenging for her and she will likely have plenty to challenge her in US.

Nope. We've looked. Very hard to find a fit for the profoundly gifted. Homeschool with enrichment is what we've been advised over and over again. Our daughter is too extroverted to allow her to be happy with that situation.
(Considered Visi for when daughter was older (as we've considered other schools in the area) and for a friend's older child. Also, re: religion-based classes: we expected more of a Georgetown University approach to religion. I didn't explain well before and apologize.)

What's the homework load/stress like at Visi? Does it compare to what Holton's is reputed to be in the Upper School?

Visi gives ~$1.7 million in Financial Aid with a student body of 480 students. (http://www.visi.org/admissions/financialaid.aspx)

Holton gives ~$3.25 million in Financial Aid with a student body of 645 students. (http://www.holton-arms.edu/page.cfm?p=230)

Visi homework load is about 3-4 hours per night. More like six hours on the weekends. But somehow the girls find time for sports, theater, etc. Freshman year can be a tough transition though because the parochial feeder schools are all over the place academically.

Our DD just transferred to Holton this year....absolutely loves it. Academically challenging, but the teachers are really partners with them in supporting their growth at students. The girls in our DD's class have been very welcoming. I know it is a tough choice, but we honestly couldn't be happier.

Holton has far stronger reputation with college admissions....Visi is perceived as a strong Catholic high school, but not in the same league as Holton or NCS.

The last sentence is very accurate.

We have a current Holton upper school student and it is academically rigorous, but she does not have that much homework. I am sorry but 22hrs of homework a week is insane. Does Visi have block scheduling and study halls or are kids just struggling to make it.

Which parochial schools do you think prepares girls the best for Visi?

Very patronizing, PP. Gender is fluid and her DS may identify as a female. Let's try to get away from gender-based chauvinism

From above:

At Visi "re: religion-based classes: we expected more of a Georgetown University approach to religion"

Why would anyone expect that? Wishful thinking, perhaps. There's more than one person that seem to have this strange view. Georgetown's approach is unique even at the college level. and has many non-Catholics.

The Jesuits don't run Visi, They are just neighbors. And even the Jesuit high schools (Gonzaga and Prep) aren't at all like Georgetown U. in their approaches to the subject.

These are Catholic Schools.
