| St. Anthony's Day School is amazing! We are just finishing our first year, and couldn't be happier. We love the school, teachers, program, director, other parents. It's such a wonderful community of parents that know and care about each other. The PTA is very organized and encourages families to get involved with community service type events. It is not just a business like the corporate center we transferred from. I highly recommend anyone who is expecting a baby to get on the St. Anthony's waiting list ASAP. We are so fortunate we were able to get a slot! |
How long were on the waitlist? I got on when I was 4 months pregnant, my daughter is 3, and despite following up every 4 months for the past 3 plus years....no spot. Also, the woman who manages the waitlist refuses to ever let me know a hint of where we are on "THE LIST." Curious about your experience because I'm a bit frustrated. We love our daughter's current daycare provider, but SADS is a block from our house!!! |
| Happy home? |
That place was pretty good, but once the director left to do her reality show the place went downhill fast. |
| Any recent feedback on Flagstone? |
Been there for about a year and been relatively happy with it. My kid is thriving. I found out my pediatrician sends her kids there too, which I found reassuring. I like that the kids get to spend a lot of time outdoors.

| If you got off the waitlist for American Day, would you take the spot? |
Sure, why wouldn't you? How old is your child? What is your alternative? |
Flagstone got a new director in spring 2013, and I think there has been a transitioning/adjusting period. The lead infant room teacher that is the subject of a lot of the Flagstone comments is no longer there as of fall 2013. |
The new director is worlds better than the old one. |

OP must have found her infant care by now and is probably looking at preschools, but just thought I'd say for anyone not wanting to play the waitlist game:
Madison Day School recently opened up on Route 1 in Old Town. I toured it and it's beautiful. My neighbor sends her son to Blue Bird 2 on Duke St and very happy there. Her kid is learning a lot and seems pretty advanced with his letter recognition and counting skills. |
| After putting down a $150 waitlist fee and a $300 security deposit, we were lucky to find another daycare center that was closer to our work than Great Beginnings Early Learning Center in Alexandria. We informed GBELC that we wouldn't be using our spot with two weeks notice, but they refused to return our security deposit. The ladies who work with the kids seem nice, but don't trust their business manager and his cut-throat business practices! |
