| Here we go with the Landon bashing all over again... Why can't we all except the fact as long as your child is solid in academics, arts, or athletics, he or she will get into a top end college. |
|
Because Landon parents don't know the difference between "except" and "accept"?
|
| Oh I'm sorry if there was a typo PP. For the record, I don't currently have or ever had a son at Landon, my two sons are both in STA. I am just tired of the Landon bashing, it's sorta becoming unnecessary since it's all over the threads on DCUM. |
I don't think I've ever commented on spelling or the like, but calling "except" in place of "accept" a "typo" is pretty silly

| Silly STA parents... |

Actually, substituting a homophone is a category of typo. It can be an artifact of typing "by ear" (and, of course, failing to proofread) rather than confusion about definitions or spelling.
There's been interesting research on how typos provide insight into cognitive functioning -- e.g. we don't type h-a-l-l; we typically type h-a-double it-l -- which means that we're as likely to type h-a-a-l (a kind of mental transposition or parsing error) as h-a-k-k (finger misalignment). I substitute "our" and "are" sometimes -- no confusion about what each word means. I'm just typing what I hear and when I'm not paying attention or working quickly, I default to one rather than think contextually. If you try to type something in a foreign language you don't know, you'll quickly see how much you rely on sound rather than spelling as you type. If you don't have a way of saying the words in your mind, and are reliant on typing letter by letter, you slow WAAAY down. |

1510 for DC residents renders the original list attempting to compare DC privates to non DC privates and publics....self serving at best, meaningless at worst. Nice way to pad the resume as if a 30k/year school wasn't enough. Where's the honor code on this one?
Perhaps it's classified as a category of typo.... |
