Sidwell LS Principal

Anonymous
I don't doubt that most of the previous posters have been SFS parents. Most SFS LS parents would probably say that he is very competent and knows what he is doing. He has a twinkle in his eye and relates well with the kids. He is an accomplished educator and writer. What's wrong with acknowledging that he could stand to improve his bedside manner?

I think the OP is a loser for seeking validation through the lower school headmaster. I never liked the guy but didn't care because he ran the school well. I don't need to like everyone and everyone doesn't need to like me.

Troll!

Actually, I'm not a troll. I've been a parent at Sidwell for a long time and I don't like the guy. But totally respect him as an educator.

What if there were an anonymous board saying you were a crummy parent or bad at your job or an unfriendly neighbor? Tell your buddy in the parent parking lot if you need to vent (or complain to the SFS Head if there is a real issue) but it is nasty to invite piling on via anonymous posts.

Is the PP (17.06) kidding? Ever see the anonymous postings and ratings on "RatemyProfessor.com" of university faculty? The Principal is a big boy. I am sure he can handle some (mildly negative) feedback along with all the praise.

Attempting to start false rumors about sexism and racism crosses the line.

Yes, one person tried to and the SFS parents clearly set the record straighT.

Sure, it is wrong to put out racist and sexist rumors, but I don't see any problem with discussing his apparent selectivity and discourtesy in dealing with parents.

I disagree. I think 17:06 makes a very good point. As the saying goes, "don't say something behind someone's back that you wouldn't say to their face". Posting criticism about someone who is identified , but keeping yourself anonymous is cowardly. So, OP; what is your name? Do you have the integrity to put your name behind your words?

Sorry to be all "Golden Rule"-ish, but when I put myself in the place of this LS Principal, with someone opening up a thread that will (and did) end up inviting all manner of criticism, I cringe. It reminds me of the "Burn Book" in the movie "Mean Girls." I think it is one thing to criticize school policies, and another to focus on one identifiable individual at a school. I don't think the OP meant to be cruel but once the thread was open there was a high likelihood of it turning into a free-for-all. Again, if there are real issues with the individual, I think there are channels within a school community through which one can pursue redress (even if it is saying your concern to a Board member whom you know socially).

To the 1.12 poster: Surely this logic doesn't hold: Do you think college teachers or university professors get evaluated by the students "to their face"? No, it is anonymous evaluations at the end of the year.

Why? Because of the implicit power imbalance within the situation between the parties. Your argument taken to its logical end would suggest that we all shut up with our opinions on different schools on this forum since we aren't standing in front of the schools making these comments openly.

I agree with some other PPs. The Principal does have a twinkle in his eye and the kids seem to adore him. Terrific and I praise the Principal for it. Could his bedside manner could use improvement? Yes. If this is seen as unacceptable criticism because it is anonymously delivered, I am not sure I know what to say!

PS. Not everyone at the school knows board members that they can discuss these issues with. Also, not everyone would want to bother to raise a stink about this formally.

Would you encourage your child to start a Facebook page criticizing kids who are mean, or teachers who are mean? If you wouldn't -- even if your child could do this anonymously and not be caught -- maybe you shouldn't participate in DCUM threads targeting one person.

Wow. These apologists are pathetic. The guy is the head of a Lower School. If he can't handle people commenting on his lack of people skills, he needs to find a new job. Stop making excuses for the guy. He doesn't exude warmth or make friendly overtures to his constituents. Guess what? That's part of the job. If people commenting over his lack of people skills keeps him up at night, he's got some serious problems.

Who said the person in question is even aware of this thread, much less concerned about its contents?

Projecting much?
