S/O of "I Hate DC" thread: Recommend your friendly, active neighborhood

13:26, where exactly do you live in Chevy Chase, DC? I live here, too, and am having difficulty getting to know the neighbors (and it's not because I don't try).

I'm not 13:26, but was planning to write a similar post until I saw hers. We live in the triangle formed by Nebraska, Military & Utah. LOVE our neighbors.

Thanks for the info, PP, but that's a pretty big area. Can you be more specific?

tenleytown/au park is great. we are blessed with fabulous neighbors and a some new younger families like us. Turtle park is a huge plus! I'll also say that both my DH and myself work FT and our nanny is on a first-name basis with all the neighbors, the mailman, UPS guy, you name it. She's been working in the neighborhood for 12 years and never wants to work anywhere else. The mortgage is a stretch but being able to get by with one car and use metro during the week is a big plus!

We can walk to the metro, the neighborhood is very friendly, we can walk to Sligo Creek trails and two playgrounds. Lots of family events in the neighborhood park, which has a farmer's market on Saturdays in spring, summer, fall. Good mix of SAHMs and WOHMs.

regardless of what side of the fence you're on, this is really important. nobody wants to be without a peer support group.

Where is the Farmer's Market?

We're new to the neighborhood and so far LOVE it. The public schools are good and the neighbors are very nice, as are the parks and local stores.

Another CCDC booster here, and we've also experienced extreme neighborly friendliness. (In fact, there's one guy we sometimes dodge because he tends to be long-winded.) We're in the area between WI and CT at Military, so there's easy access to the Metro and shopping on both of those thoroughfares, which, to answer a PP's critique that those aren't social activities, provides a premise for social interaction. Walking everywhere also helps.

Wilson Pool is a great gathering spot and the park at 41st & Western was (and will be when it reopens) a great resource. I WOHM, but weekends find us talking to other parents everywhere. Our neighbors gathered for a giant grilling party during last summer's blackout. My DH helped a pregnant neighbor shovel when her DH was out of town during Snowmageddon.

Affordable? Hell no. Wonderful? Hell yes.

Gotta throw my vote in for Mount Pleasant! We moved here six months ago from Dupont Circle, and the difference in amazing! On our move-in day, a bunch of neighbors stopped by just to say hello and to welcome us to the neighborhood. The mixed ages and income levels make for a nice and interesting group of neighbors. Plus there are neighborhood parties, an amazing farmer's market, and a street (Lamont) that really goes all out for Halloween! It's a short walk to the back entrance of the zoo (although the uphill walk back home is a bitch!), and Rock Creek Park is right near by. On the down side, we spend way too much $$$ at Target because it's such a short walk away!
