All they have to do is walk up to any back locked exterior door, break the glass of the window, let themselves in to the building. They would have at least 3 minutes uninterrupted access to children and staff until police arrived. No one likes to talk about this but it's 100 percent fact.

I know the liberals are gonna freak out when I say this....but if we had armed security guards at school, that would make all the difference.

Armed rent a cop? Police working overtime who fall asleep w coffee and a donut. Schools aren’t prisons. Nothing to do with my politics. You want your little karla to go through the metal detector and be wanted?

I was actually going to suggest training and arming teachers but I didn't want every person on this forum to pass out.

No. I’m a teacher and I don’t want to be carrying a gun at work. I will absolutely quit. I don’t get the big deal about metal detectors. We used them in DCPS and there was no trauma around it. It’s hardly a big deal.

I don’t think so. It was confirmed by police that a man walking a dog burned the shed. Perhaps the kids saw how freaked out people were by that, and then decided to do the graffiti. The tik-tok is true. My kid saw it as well.

Is there a link to confirm this? How did the police convey this information? My kids are not at the school but we live close by and I would like to know that they have the arsonist identified and arrested.

Metal detectors are a massive undertaking. How about we just bring cops (SROs.. school resource officers) back to schools? The Council removed them a few years ago. That's an easy one to implement.

I'm a teacher and a registered gun owner. I would love to carry a gun at work so I could defend the children and myself. Not every teacher would need to be armed.

It's very disappointing that, 10 days or so after the arson, we have a rumor of a description of the perpetrator rather than the actual description and video from police. The whole community could have had our eyes out and checked our Ring/Nest footage. This mess might already be over.

Maybe it's because I am super ACAB but I fail to see how throwing cops into schools will magically make them safer and end all violent incidents. Do you plan on placing an officer in every hallway of the school? The school I work at is 4 floors, 5 if you count the basement. You could have 30 dead kids before the officer even makes it to the floor in question to do something about it.

Safety is a huge issue i have as an mcps educator - I send my kids to mcps but unfortunately have a deep distrust. Dont assume anything where safety is concerned.

We need both. We need zero, security guards, cameras and detectors.

You need at least 10-15 security guards and sros per high school given the size. Your comments are why we need more.

What happens if you are not paying attention teaching and someone grabs your gun?

If someone manages to grab the gun that is in my shoulder holster then maybe I have much bigger issues

I’m very upset that the community wasn’t informed. I walk around there all the time at night and clearly wouldn’t do it if I knew there was an arsonist on the loose.

Anonymous wrote:The two boys who did racist graffiti at Pyle a couple summers ago had no consequences. It will be interesting to see whether something different happens under Thomas. This could easily be the work of the same dirtbags.

You don't know what their consequences were unless you asked them. MCPS doesn't tell you what consequences they impose on kids for violating school rules.

People who work at the school know that there was no consequence.

MCPS should have cameras and regular security on the grounds.
