This. It's not hard. |
You would be surprised. Hotels skip on cleaning procedures too. |
Hotels don't wash their duvets between the guests. Some hotels have 2 sheets to create a "duvet cover" sandwiching the duvet, so that you aren't touching what other people had been laying on top of. But even hotels with duvet covers that look clean don't necessarily wash them between each guest, especially with high turnover of guests. It's a well known tip to assume your hotel duvet isn't clean, so lay on top of them only with your clothes on

I do not think hotels wash their bedspreads after every guest which theoretically grosses me out.
They should. |
They don't. There is no way, the turnover has to be quick. Maybe in some super high end hotels? You should always assume the duvet covers are not cleaned for you, and who knows when they were cleaned the last time. |

I love when places have the clearly washable outside duvet cover! It is rare and I’ve come to terms with the fact that sleeping under a blanket someone else has used is not the end of the world.
We do often rewash dishes when we get to beach houses though, because they always seem dirty. |

Dearest gentle reader,
Have no fear; the cleaners said they’ll replace duvet covers. So I’m buying two sets of sheets, two sets of duvet covers, and one set of duvets. Bed bug cases for mattresses, pillows, and duvets. Plus mattress pads that can be washed as needed. I’ll get an extra of each size to have on hand. Two sets of towels. The cleaner will drop off/pick up all of the linens to be laundered, saving lots of time on turnover day. -OP |
For ours, part of turning over the house is to bring all of that to a laundromat. We don't actually want it done in the house in reegulatr washer/dryers so have them drop off and pick up at the laundromat. There are a bunch, which some might not exoect in an affluent area but I think others are doing the same thing. |
Gross wash the duvet too. |
| We stay at beach rentals every summer and bring our own bedding/towels. We know everything is clean and we don’t have to do laundry the first day of vacation. Pretty simple. |
It will have a bed bug cover so I don't think it's necessary. Plus, that'd be a huge time sink to wash 8 large duvets every single week in addition to all of the sheets, duvet covers, towels, etc. There is a duvet cover on it; you'll be fine. |
This is what we are planning - have the cleaners drop them off with a laundry service nearby. I know they have huge washers/dryers. |
+1 These posts are all aspirational. What they think should be done. What they want the places they rent to do. What they think they would do. The reality is, washing quilts/bedspreads/comforters, whatever is on the bed above the sheet, is rarely happening basically anywhere you're renting - hotels, airbnbs, anything. It's not happening. My strong guess is, seasonally or if there's something gross on it. Additionally, people who post on threads like that are people who think a lot about cleanliness, and thus have opinions on it, and think it's important. That's, like, 10% of people. Most people truly don't care that much. I remember a recent thread about towel washing, and an insane number of people said daily or every 2-3 days. That is NOT normal, folks. |
| Y’all are nasty. |
| Yet in Fire Island I think the sheets are the least of your problem when you are face down germ wise |
