My colleagues insisted on hiring the guy with eight prior jobs on his resume. He had borderline personality disorder. He was a “shit stirrer”. Always creating dramas that had to be managed by HR and higher ups. Exhausting! So dramatic! He lasted maybe 18 months? |
If you have a high performer and special in demand skill then that's what you need to do to retain them |
Nobody thought to call or followup on references or former employers? Even if it's just get a vibe? |

Op here again with a “You were Right” update: A few more meetings in with 20 jobs in 20 years manager and to half the team is talking about quitting. Holy toxic red flag mess. I’ve seen a lot of crazy in the workplace but “wow” this takes the cake. Treats everyone like a servant, regardless of title. Has ZERO understanding of industry - let alone process or product — and acts like priority #1 set it on fire. A few sycophants are in heaven because red flag express is “trusting them” to give them the scoop on people’s vulnerabilities.
And since I see right through BS I’m getting on the list of people who are threatening to red flagger. I’m too old for this s—-t. What’s up with crazy people — be crazy ambitious at 25, just get your paycheck at 50… |
| I work a pretty niche role and this is somewhat common (although your example is extreme). People tend to stay 1-2 years and move on, because the job is basically the same everywhere and there’s little to no learning curve. I am on my fifth job in the past 11 years (although two of them were 2.5 and 6.5 years). |
