20 jobs in 20 years? Impressive or red flag?

My colleagues insisted on hiring the guy with eight prior jobs on his resume. He had borderline personality disorder. He was a “shit stirrer”. Always creating dramas that had to be managed by HR and higher ups. Exhausting! So dramatic! He lasted maybe 18 months?

Any company who could potentially promote people each year has no idea what they’re doing.

If you have a high performer and special in demand skill then that's what you need to do to retain them

His inability to see other sides or cooperate or work well with others has cost him roughly 20 jobs. But his charisma and connections has gotten him 21 jobs. So still rolling.

Op here - they hired the person who was conveniently available to start right away. Just sat in a meeting and they took over, threw everyone under a bus with zero understanding of anything and been at the company for 2 days. So, yeah, this is a new low… interviews well, kiss up/kick down, total nightmare in seat. Not a cheap hire either….

Nobody thought to call or followup on references or former employers? Even if it's just get a vibe?

Op here again with a “You were Right” update: A few more meetings in with 20 jobs in 20 years manager and to half the team is talking about quitting. Holy toxic red flag mess. I’ve seen a lot of crazy in the workplace but “wow” this takes the cake. Treats everyone like a servant, regardless of title. Has ZERO understanding of industry - let alone process or product — and acts like priority #1 set it on fire. A few sycophants are in heaven because red flag express is “trusting them” to give them the scoop on people’s vulnerabilities.
And since I see right through BS I’m getting on the list of people who are threatening to red flagger.

I’m too old for this s—-t. What’s up with crazy people — be crazy ambitious at 25, just get your paycheck at 50…

I work a pretty niche role and this is somewhat common (although your example is extreme). People tend to stay 1-2 years and move on, because the job is basically the same everywhere and there’s little to no learning curve. I am on my fifth job in the past 11 years (although two of them were 2.5 and 6.5 years).
