MCPS Teachers and Staff: Do awards and spotlight recognitions by BOE and Taylor really help boost morale?

So why are we positively reinforcing only 1 person per job class?

Because it’s for show and social media.

Do they ever have an original thought in their little pea brains at central? What an awful premise to promote if they are going based off that book. Yes! Let’s make sure our staff members who literally are killing themselves due to insane expectations get a cookie and a pat on the back. Instead of how about - let’s see how we can alleviate a burden for all?

I realized very early in my career that I would never get an award no matter how good my teaching or test scores are. It’s mostly a popularity contest or showing off diversity. I don’t really fit those molds, so I focus on making a difference in kids lives my own ways.

I hope Taylor's flunkies who spend their time fighting parents anonymously on this forum take note that most of the teachers and staff who responded in this thread see through the performative nature of these stunts.

This is where it's coming from. Every principal received a box of flashy cards, and other flair items to bestow upon staff. They are also supposed to be tracking when they give staff one of these tokens of appreciation. Pretty sure my admin tossed the box somewhere. Fortunately my principal sees right through the BS.

It's always nice to be recognized for doing good work, but not when you see teaching positions being cut while the superintendent is making rap videos and hosting galas on taxpayers' money. Many are just waiting for him to be gone.

I wish more teachers would say this out loud and in public.

How much did those gala's cost? How much is this new plan costing and beyond teachers what else is he cutting?
