Which one is your son picking?

I think this is a post to reframe the discussion via an ask with no question mark not a statement of their Dins status.

If you care about the coach then your kid ain't it.

🤡 who knows nothing

If your kid is top tier, you are looking for exposure, connections, and opportunity. Coaching is irrelevant. If you need to know who the coach is so you can gauge if your kid will fit in or play...your kid ain't it. Ask me how I know. There are levels to this.

There is a 100% chance your kids market value is not over $25k so there is not much you can tell me.

You obviously have not done the research because 95% of the market value of our top 20 players from the DMV comes from 4 clubs. None of them have natties but they all have exposure if you can play.

I almost hate to ask but what market value are we talking about here? What are the four clubs?

I don't mind getting exposed to Broskyzian theory from time to time. I look at my 11 year old rug rat as a debit!!!!

Happy to share information. Once we started getting approached by clubs, I had to learn more about this system than I think I ever wanted to know.

Market value = the value a club would pay to buy a player. I use Transfermarkt but I imagine there are all kinds of sophisticated systems that I am not aware of. Kevin Paredes is the most valuable DMV product currently at $6m. Your market value is basically how good you are and how much another club is willing to pay for you.

Regarding the four clubs, I am not touching that as people will come out with the knives and pitchforks because everybody knows everything and thinks their club is the best. If you take Paredes as an example, there are several clubs that can claim his development in the DMV: https://www.transfermarkt.us/kevin-paredes/profil/spieler/711517. There are definitely patterns in the top players.

Ok. So we both have 2014 players I think. Both play at high levels. Mine will be MLS Next HD next fall. Are you suggesting that alone places them at $25,000? I will look up that other $6 m player but the link didn't work for me. You think my guy has value and if he does, then why did I just pay $400 deposit or whatever it was when I clicked accept? Should I hate finessed them for a discount?

Yes, we both have 2014 MLS Next HG players. No, at 2014 we have no market value. If you are the same guy who said coaching does not matter, I assumed you had a 2010 or higher with that level of bravado and looking for exposure. Exposure for a 2014 means nothing right now. While there invariably are kids I have not seen, I have seen most of the top 2014’s here in the area and none of them, my son included, are super can’t miss prospects. A few would be in a Cat I academy and most in a Cat II academy across the pond. My son is a Cat II level player right now. The Europeans and SA’s can’t predict the professionals this early so I don’t have the hubris to think my kid can remain on top when he has yet to have his first crush on a girl yet.

If your phone has been ringing with invitations to tryout from the parents, coaches and clubs, you can hold out and then they may offer a deal to secure you. It started as early as November for us. If you are not yet solid on the 2014 landscape and where you fit in, I would secure your offer with your club.

While we have offers to play for free, we will probably be paying because I am looking for something specific that I know my current club can’t provide. If you wait on responding to an offer and they want you, they will call and text. I can confirm that happens. I have also seen the offers get better with time.

Each family will have different considerations so do what is best for your family. Because we are not making a decision for at least a month, I will exit the chat and allow it solely to be about offers. Good luck to all!

1. Not the guy who said coaching doesn't matter. I'm no student of this world.

2. I'm def a full pay guy, mostly bc I don't know any better and don't like talking to the clubs, maybe to my kid's detriment.

3. Our kids are prob playing together next year.

All good....see ya around!

Definitely a post to refocus the group here. Those are confirmed offers. He will decide on Sunday.

Can someone please start a 2015 thread? I’m new to this and would like a similar discussion.

What 2015’s are trying out and getting offers right now? Other than Arlington, who I guess had a really early tryout for their pre-ECNL?

Please keep this discussion to 2014. Thank you!

Did anyone who went to McLean’s U13 tryout on Friday evening who didn’t already have an offer get one yet?

Went to McLean on Friday night, have not heard anything. Any updates on other clubs? Wondering who (if any) are totally done with offers or still working through.

The issue is some clubs send "rejection" emails/notifications and some don't. So, for the clubs that don't, it's known that usually means your child didn't get an offer. It would be nice if all clubs sent something regardless.

Agree that it would be nice for some communication either way. But in a way I prefer the scenario where they just don’t publish additional ID sessions and if you aren’t invited to another one, then you know you’re not getting an offer. As opposed to the multiple ID sessions where they don’t tell you not to bother coming back but not getting an offer either. I think that is harder on the kids.

Am I reading all this to assume that if my DS has not received an offer from Arlington for its U13 ECNL RL team, then even though they were scheduled to have a second tryout, it is likely to be a waste of time? [[Note - Their 2nd tryouts were scheduled for today (3/2), but cancelled due to weather. No word on if they will be rescheduled.]]
