How is this news???
Look at colleges’ common data sets where they all report their financial aid stats and, crucially, % of need met. If it’s < 100%, where you think the rest of the money is coming from? My family moved to US when I was 19, and I was astonished at the way the UMC college experience has been normalized here. A state school should be the norm and the goal, unless you can afford full pay or you are one of those that have a shot at the handful of schools that meet full needs. If you are one of those lucky people for whom a private school is cheaper than or comparable to in-state tuition, by all means consider it. But that is actually an uncommon situation among the hundreds of private colleges and universities that exist here. |
Couldn’t agree more. We should think about UG (public vs private) the way we think of high school. You wouldn’t mortgage your house to send your kid to Sidwell. Why should you mortgage your house to send your kid to UMiami? |
| Sadly the luxury brand marketers have convinced people that it’s worth it to mortgage your house to send your kids to new Ivies (aka SEC schools). |
Lots of pointed comments in here about George Washington University. |
You mean 250k to attend the University of Florida? |
