She would’ve graduated with a German high school diploma as well, and we were thinking of sending her to Germany for college. I told her she could get a business degree and be bilingual in English in German and go on. We were really quite invested in it.

FCPS doesn't give students who take German in high school a German high school diploma.

Maybe she meant a seal of biliteracy in German.

Doesn't every Virginia student who takes the normal load of 4 years of any foreign language get this?

It has been a huge commitment, but to have a bilingual kid when you don’t speak another language, it made me feel really good

German is actually an easy language for American kids to learn.

My kid who struggles in English and has some language related learning disabilities has no problems learning German in FCPS, non immersion.

And for that reason, I do agree with whoever posted that German should be in every high school, along with Spanish.

Yeah, but why is the school board of “diversity” trying to homogenize the languages and programs offered in FCPS. This is the best way to invite vouchers into the school system: only offer the exact same program to everyone. People like choices and having choices that are backed by public schools (not charters) helps provide much needed choice and diversity into the school system. Getting rid of that is playing into the Voucher system.

It is very sad to see FCPS head this way.

Japaneses is already taught at I think 7 HS, soon to be 8.

TJ is offering it again but I have no clue how many kids will take it.

That is 1/4 of the HS already. It might be at more and my very rudimentary google search missed it.

She doesn't have to do the full diploma. The Humanities classes for IB look pretty great. She could even take those a SL and not HL if she wanted, essentially honors vs AP. And they have AP classes that should take for subjects like math and science if she is more STEM based.

If she wants to go to Germany for College, then the IB program is actually a great fit for her because that is the program, or similar to the program, that German HS kids take. The IB diploma would actually help her in her application process.

Incorrect info about AP classes. There are very few at Robinson. There are no science APs. There are 4, maybe 5 AP classes total.

No Science APs? Ugh, I thought they offered all the basic AP classes but none of the more elective APs.
