Double major, computer science and math, from UMD. RMIB grad.

- suggest a math teacher certification or Masters in Teaching with certification; CS has been off-shored largely.

But what drives me insane:

He is fixated on one or two major cities where he "must" start his career. He is fixated on what I think is a narrow field of jobs.

He, like OP's kid, is going to learn the hard way that not everyone starts out with a glamorous first job in their first choice city. But it's a big, big country with a lot of opportunities. There are a LOT of cities where these kids could be happy for a year or two or three.

I'm tired of the whining and refuse to indulge it.

This. I wonder how many of the "unemployed" grads are doing the same thing as your DC.

+1 on my kids' parent facebook page there have been a few parents asking for leads for their kids who don't have jobs - and only want to stay in their home city, will only consider other locations if the job is fully remote. Sorry, you may have to move to get your career started.

It happens during every single Republican term.

Same thing during Bush 1 and Bush 2.

What’s the point? They will do better than most in 5 years.

Or take something less than ideal. Doesn't mean flipping burgers (although you do what you need to do to pay rent, unless mom and dad are footing the bill) but sounds like too many kids are holding out for the perfect job. no, your job might suck for awhile. it might be a little rudimentary at first. and that's ok.

Please google economic failures of the Biden Administration and start educating yourself.

Please you MAGAs need to stop blaming Biden for your totally incompetent leader. We can all read the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. They are blaming Trump for his inept policies. It’s only MAGGATS and Fox still lamely trying to defend Trump’s economy. It’s just sad we all suffer when idiots cast their 2024 vote.

Yep. I graduated in 2009.

It was completely brutal.

I ended up taking a job with AmeriCorps VISTA. My boyfriend at the time took a job at a tailoring company. We had both graduated with honors from Georgetown.

I ended up going to grad school and am now 15 years into a career I love.

He ended up getting an Econ PhD and is now a tenured professor.

But that year was rough. We lived in a studio in Kalorama and pretty much ate cereal and Chef Boyardee.
