Private Schools Should Make Their Own Weather Decisions

Hopefully a precedent for future weather closings. Follow the first few days then make the decision that makes sense for that particular school.

I have two kids at two diff privates in NoVA.

One began virtual learning last Thurs and Fri and then went back in person today.

The other had no virtual learning (younger children) but went back last Friday with a two-hour delay and full-time as of today.

This is really the crux of a lot of issues today. Everyone is afraid of the dissenting voices---even if it is a small minority.

It’s crazy for a small private school to follow the guidelines of a huge county school system.

Our Maryland private opened on Wednesday and our local public school finally opened today with a 2 hour delay.

I think the best policy for private schools is to follow MCPS for the first day and then make their own decisions after that. We are paying college tuition prices to not be in MCPS and expect a small school can manage their snow removal and parents can safely drive their children.

My kids private has been in person every day

Really? On Monday? Then you are not in the DMV.

Ours does. We are in MoCo but opened last Thursday (delay) and fully open Friday and Monday. We also had asynchronous work Tuesday and Wednesday last week.

I’d be supremely pissed to pay $60k a year and our school went by useless MCPS standards. I think only some of the catholic schools do this. Do any of the independent schools follow the county? I thought they all made their own decisions

Holton had a true snow day Monday, asynchronous on Tuesday and Weds, two hour delay Thursday but back in person, normal opening Friday and Monday.

Now, if it will just not snow Tuesday night...

If my private school made weather decisions based on what McPS does I would be unhappy. They are a huge county and try to stay closed if there is ice anywhere in the county.

NYC? The public schools there are open in person every day but Monday. (Monday they were virtual.)

Ours does and I’m grateful.

The French school is still closed.

We went back last Thursday. School makes its own decisions and does not follow FFX county. Thankfully.

They shouldn't be. They follow MCPS, which is open tomorrow.
