| we all just had the flu. It was terrible. All had flu shots. Even if it didn’t offer much protection this year, we will continue to get them. They do offer some protection, do a good job protecting against hospitalization and death, and don’t really have much downside. You do what you can. |
| What are the symptoms? I’ve had a lot of congestion, sore throat and now a cough. For about a week. Sore throat is mild now and no fever just tired and run down. Is this the flu? My son had the same but with a low fever for o my 24 hours. |
The point is preaching a vaccine with very questionable efficacy is annoying. Influenza can be dangerous, no doubt about it. So get the vaccine or don’t. But recognize the fact it often offers minimal protection and people often get it way too early. |
| Is it worth getting the shot now, despite its limited efficacy thus season? My college-aged daughter didn’t get one this year, but I’m pushing her to do it because at least it might be less severe us that proven? The fact that it’s often less severe with even a mismatched shot?). |
| I sometimes let myself think the DCUM set is more intelligent than average, but then a thread like this brings me back to reality. Get your flu shot every year. Even a poorly matched shot offers protection. This isn’t new information. |
You do realize there is scant evidence for the flu shot’s effectiveness right? There is little statistical or anecdotal evidence despite this thing being given to hundreds of millions of people over 45 years. It’s only people like you still supporting it. People who are particularly susceptible to marketing and think themselves smarter than they actually are. If they couldn’t advertise the shot anymore, people like you would never take it again. |
Yes, it’s worth it. The flu hasn’t even peaked yet. Get it now. |
| I get it every year since work requires it or you have to fill out extra forms. I probably would still get it since I never get any noticeable side effects unlike the covid shot. Who knows if its effective. |
We’ve had this in our house. Sore throat was AWFUL. Tested negative for flu and Covid. I’m almost a week out from first symptoms and today I feel marginally better. I don’t have a fever today (as of this morning). I still feel weak and the cough is uncomfortable. |
PP—Where do you work as an immunologist or infectious disease doctor? |
This is true. |
Even a quick Google search pulls up any number of peer reviewed studies that show you're full of something. Hint: it's not knowledge. |
| A well-fitted N95 or equivalent offers a lot of protection and does not require a strain match. |
The evidence is that the unvaccinated die of the flu more often than the unvaccinated. By an order of magnitude, every single year. Most people do not die of the flu. But most people who do die of the flu were not expecting to die of the flu. And not everyone was on death’s door. |
