Why Do So Many Strong Liberal Arts Colleges Not Have Supplemental Essays?

To make it very easy to apply and inflate their application numbers, thus reducing acceptance rate. Colby is notorious. Not only no supplemental essay but no application fee as well.

Middlebury, for one, endeavors to offer an alumni interview to each applicant. The interviewer then submits a detailed report to the admissions office. IMHO, this gives you a lot more info than a supplemental essay.
