Yea it is. If the sex scenes were hetero you'd say it was porn. They're over the top and unnecessary.

I'd say they're incessant, which makes the story boring to me. If there is a story beyond the standard "in the closet" narrative.

I’m on the second episode and it’s just flashing forward to various scenes together. Does it get deeper (no pun intended) at any point? So far I feel like it’s just the love scenes. Literally nothing that that plus his tiger mom had happened. I understand there are only 6 or 7 episodes - how can they afford to waste an entire one on nothing?

Episodes 5 and 6 are deeper and very satisfying but it’s not an ultra deep show.

I do watch Real Housewives so I don’t always need deep but honestly the last two episodes of RHOSLC were far more compelling than the first two episodes than this show. I’ll keep going though given that it’s only a few more hours and I’m in bed sick anyway.

1. That’s absurd but 2. Keep going bc eps 3-6 are stunning.

Yes keep watching. Also I thought that too. Then I watched all the season and loved it. Then my social media was over taken with it and then I rewatched and everything in ep 1 and 2 meant a lot more..but you dont see how much it means until you watch everything.

I finished it. Not sure I am interested enough to watch it again given that there are plenty of other shows on my list. Episode 3 with Kip and Scott was great. That episode was my favorite one as a whole. Episodes 5 and 6 were good but maybe could have been condensed into one. I think the whole thing maybe could have been condensed into a long movie. If there was another season I would watch it to see where the story goes. When I compare it to The Pitt, which just restarted, it’s like apples and toothpaste but that’s ok, not all shows need to be 10s. It was a fine guilty pleasure but I think it was a bit overhyped on here. Definitely memorable but not remarkable.

I love the show! It’s really well acted and done. The actor who plays Ilya is drop dead gorgeous. The phone call in Russian was so emotional and powerful.
Can’t wait for season 2.

I didn’t think so. The sex scenes, while plentiful, were tastefully done. The acting is great, and the men are total eye candy.

Yes, all of this. The acting is quite good, especially the actor who plays Ilya. I was very surprised that he isn't Russian or Russian speaking. A lot of the show is also beautifully shot and has really good music. I was not expecting to like it so much.

+1. Connor Storrie's acting is incredible, he carries that show. I was shocked to find out that he is from Texas. His Russian is excellent (my mother is Russian, and I am fluent).
He is so hot too.

Agree. But Hudson Williams was also outstanding, just more subtle. They don’t state it in the show, but in the books, Shane is mildly autistic and Hudson played the character with that in mind. It’s a really strong performance.

Fair point. Both leads are excellent actors.
I haven’t enjoyed an indie show like this in years.

He had 3 weeks to learn all his Russian lines and work on the accent/ the time between getting cast and starting filming. Also, the whole show was shot in under 40 days and is very low budget.
Respect.

It was too long in the fist episode (I just would rewind) but they get better later, I’d just check my phone

The books are pretty badly written, including the premise of a mildly autistic hockey player (no way a mildly autistic person can enjoy or be good at this particular sport, which requires great coordination and lowered sensitivity).
The show is like a great musical clip, well staged and beautiful and with great music as background but very little dramatic development.
I enjoyed the acting of Storrie, hope he gets more roles even though it’s now public that he is gay himself and it’s harder for gay actors to be cast.
The rest of it is truly mediocre.

It is cringey which is expected
The only unexpected things is Storrie’s fabulous acting
