| I am a progressive, but still hijabi, muslim mom and I'd recommend dc and TP. that way they'll have access to progressive families and the muslim families will also be more open and progressive. No-one is going to "celebrate your gayness" but they will look past it and just treat you like any other family and love on your kids when you have them. even religious people have no idea how they are going to feel when confronted with a real life person but someone who is muslim and has exposure to other gay families will more easily accept a gay muslim family. these white people, while well meaning, have no real idea about how we judge or our gender roles (which are much more dependant on culture than religion. The most westernized Turks/kazaks etc are more macho than the most conservative Pakistani/indonesian guys) and also how tolerance works or doesnt. the 5 pillars and 6 articles dont mention family structure or sexuality- if we can be friends with ppl who bow to statues and "feed" them milk, we can be open to to a gay muslim family. also im assuming you need access to groceries and food?? that is easier from DC b/c its in NOVA. they are dinks- their budget will stretch to Dupont and Logan circle. TP is very white or black Muslims who might be less welcoming of a gay couple?? maybe im just assuming but from my limited experience doing inter mosque community events , "heritage" muslims from Asia are more conflicted/openminded while west african/Black muslims are very hardline about homosexuality. |
| AU Park or Chevy Chase, DC or Woodle or any of the part of NW DC that is walkable to shops and metro but has yards and green should meet both their needs. |

I’ve noticed minority wise a lot of Arabs live in Va, and Jews live in Moco.
But in Silver Spring where I live there are a lot of East Africans some of them are Muslim so you do have so religious diversity in Silver Spring. I’m saying that because Silver Spring/Kensington is definitely a stronger gayborhood. School wise, in Montgomery County be prepared for Muslim populations to protest school content when it comes to lgbt issues because that has happened so there is definitely a Muslim voice in this county. I see more Indian families from Potomac area up through Gaithersburg and a number of them may be Muslims. Sorry I can’t think of a gay friendly and mostly Muslim neighborhood mostly because Muslims aren’t necessarily gay friendly. Welcome to America. 😆 |
lol the truth. |
| DuPont area |
America is definitely Balkanizing in a way that’s highlighting the worst viewpoints from around the world |
| I would live in DC, Kalorama. |
There is a tiny section of Kensington that is catholic/conservative. This is the area directly around Holy Redeemer Church and School. The rest of Kensington is totally chill. Come here. |
| Shepherd Park/Colonial Village is close to Silver Spring, DC Proper, very diverse, and feeds into good schools. |
Anyone in Alexandria could have told you that. I’d throw in Spring Valley and parts of Kent |
OP here. That's what I've noticed as well. I never really hard of that many complaints coming from Muslims living in MoCo prior to October 7, but I definitely heard some things after that. There's a lot of Iranians and a decent sized Afghan and Turkish population in MoCo though. Iranians aren't all that religious and they're also one of the more white-adjacent ethnic groups in the Middle East, so I think they have a better time assimilating. |
| In DC, towards EOTR if money is tight otherwise NW DC, close to Dupont circle. |
