Thoughts on Pitt?

Yes, there is some space between the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Chapel. More space in front of Soldiers and Sailors Museum (both maybe more picnics and hacky sacks than full-on soccer?). And Schenley Plaza connects into Schenley Park, with huge swaths of green space. If you look at Google Maps, the area bordered by Carnegie Museum, Frick Fine Arts Center (a campus building), Posvar academic building, and the Cathedral of Learning is technically Schenley Plaza, but feels like the campus of Pitt.

Pitt has great options for outdoor activities. Check it out: https://www.pittwire.pitt.edu/features-articles/2025/07/31/outdoor-recreation-oakland-rivers

Pitt has green space, but it is limited. My son runs a lot and plays pickleball. He runs into Squirrel Hill (the neighborhood next to Oakland and where CMU is located) and back. Pickleball is in Schenley Park, a large urban park next to CMU. He uses the free e-bikes to get there. It is probably a mile or two away.

During welcome week, there were events on the lawn in front of Soldiers and Sailors.

Asians are the largest minority group (around 15%) and I'd say that South Asians make up a large part of that, drawn to Pitt's strong biomedical reputation among other things.

Seems fairly STEM focused. Does anyone have a humanities kid attending who loves it? Would love to hear. Thanks!

My kid is in the Dietrich College of Arts and Sciences. He is a freshman Economics major. His economics classes have a lot of kids who are business majors. They have the same first year requirements. His friends/roommates/future roommates are engineering majors. I think Dietrich is the largest College.
