And I have yet to see a compelling reason for boundary changes except: 1) I don’t care about any kids but my own, gimme a handout; or 2) screw whitey. See, we can all be dumb reductionists like you. |
People throw around words a lot these days, especially behind a computer/phone. But, I don't think it's racist to want to send your kids to the best school you can....based on available data like test scores and program availability. |
To be fair, no one ever said there wouldn't be some additional renovation costs except people like you. To be fair, the facilities guy said it could be less if it was a traditional school, which it looks almost certain to be. To be fair, this is much, much cheaper than building a new school and they are having no problems filling it - in fact people are fighting to get in. This school solves so many problems in western Fairfax and could save even more money over the just the cost of building a new highs school if they can also avoid expanding Centerville. |
Dunne said he was surprised at the additional cost. |
I’d say they count on a lot of uninformed voters just equating g a vote on the bond as “schools are good” or people willing to tolerate many millions of waste so long as their own school gets an upgrade. |
+1. Democrats wonder why they are in the wilderness right now, and it’s largely because of posts liked the one declaring much of the Fairfax community “racist” because they are against boundary changes. When everything becomes “racist” Then people just tune out the claim as a bunch of far left extremists like that poster. |
So, happy Carson families throwing Centreville under a bus yet again. “We get the new school we want, and you get your expansion canceled and maybe a ticket to Westfield.” |
DP. You are incorrect. FCPS has repeatedly made statements about how much money buying KAA would save compared to building a new school from scratch, and that amount was always based on the difference between the projected cost of a new school in the last CIP and the initial $150 million purchase price. The additional costs they are going to incur always gets ignored so they can inflate the purported savings. |
Thier bus ride to Westfield would still be shorter than the bus ride to Oakton that Crossfield families have been saddled with. |
+1000 Residency verification is LONG overdue. Gatehouse (FCPS) employs exactly ONE PERSON responsible for residency verification, for the entire, enormous, county. |
The expansion has been delayed for a year. It had nothing to do with KAA. Centreville can still have an expansion and renovation--though, maybe smaller. And, those Fairfax kids next door to Centreville should be able to go there. |
We're the same way - Crossfield kids go to Carson but then end up at Oakton without any of their new friends. I don't know why they don't put Fox Mill kids in Hughes and Crossfield kids in Franklin. |
Wasn't Dunne the one that was trying to take credit for this acquisition? |
Yes. The other School Board members basically told him to shut up some Dixit could take at least partial credit. KAA is in her district, not his. |
If the school board had been responsibly changing boundaries as needed over the last 25 years, we might not have had to do nearly so many costly rennovations. That's hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars that could have gone to teachers and programs. THAT is the compelling reason for boundary changes. |
