Meanwhile, in another thread where UMD is on a list of schools, people are assuming those schools are easy acceptances... |
It's Bethesda magazine. Kids in other regions /states do. Internationally as well. |
As an "International" I can tell you BU is no great shakes, if even on anyone's radar. |
My DD knows lots of kids from other parts of the country who either went to, are attending or just matriculated at W&L. I asked if she wanted to look at it and she said that it’s not a school that anyone at her school (BCC) ever really considers. Remember that colleges can be contagious - once a few kids from a high school start to go to one, it becomes more popular within that school or town. For whatever reason, W&L is just not that popular in the DMV. Which is strange, since it’s becoming increasingly popular in NY and NEw England. |
BU is very expensive for what you get. |
BU is firmly in Plan B territory. Rarely is it the first choice. Hence low yield. |
lol maybe because he or she wanted a balanced life in college? |
UGA coming in at 31% Acceptance Rate for Montgomery County. |
It's a 41% boost |
Emory Overall including Oxford 14%, Bethesda 16%
WashU Overall 12%, Bethesda 14% Vanderbilt Overall 5%, Bethesda 15% Rice Overall 8%, Bethesda 16% CMU Overall 12%, Bethesda 10% Dartmouth Overall 6%, Bethesda 5% Nyu Overall 8%, Bethesda 16% So, if you live in the area you know what schools to possibly aim for to increase your chances. I would avoid CMU and Dartmouth. |
None of the numbers in Bethesda magazine are surprising if you've had a kid applying to college in the past few years. |
Explain? |
Vanderbilt, Rice, and NYU offer an substantial boost while the others dont. DCUM makes it seem Emory and Washu are so easy to get into from the region when there really isnt any boost. |
I don't see a lot of kids choosing SEC or southern schools unlike Annoying Frat guy's claim. Top OOS schools where kids are attending are Ohio State, Penn State, VT, Pitt, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado Boulder, GW, American.

RM’s acceptance rate to UMD was 24%, guess I should send my younger kids to Einstein. I really wish UMD would release the stats by school. It would be interesting to see what stats you need from each school in MCPS compared to schools in other counties vs other states. Then break down that data by those that applied to limited enrollment programs. |
