Tuition assistance

I gotta circle back on this - the $28k doesn't even include gas or maintenance. This person is probably spending close to price of tuition on cars.

Insanity.

You make plenty. Public school.

Yeah the car costs are mind boggling.

You do realize that our house payment is very low?
Also one car is new Hyundai but I drove my old one until it had 189k. There are two car payments in that number and one was purchased used. I bought a new car but I don't see why that's bad. I need reliablility. I have a long commute. Also I can't afford to shop at whole foods. It's safeway or giant. For all of you bashing, id like a run down of your annual expenses?

What car do you own and how much are your car payments? I hope everyone of you saying my payments are high are driving used pintos.

200 minus taxes 142k minus:
School: $20,000
Mortgage: $22,000
Car payments: $28,000
Car insurance: $5,000
Groceries: $26,000
Utilities: $9,840

31k left and that goes towards gas, clothing, repairs, medical, school fundraisers, extra activities (sports etc). Do you think that's living beyond means? I barely have enough to buy myself clothes etc. It adds up pretty quickly.

Happy to see your breakdowns.

I certainly hope that my kids' school would not give tuition assistance to someone who is paying $2300 per month in car payments.

No, you don't need a rundown of my expenses, because I'm not asking for or getting tuition assistance.

It's bad that you purchased a new car at that price because you are asking for tuition assistance.

Do you see a common theme here?

You could (and should) have used some of the money you are spending on a car to pay tuition. It's pretty simple.

Are you seriously saying that you don't see the hutzpah in your question? You are essentially asking the school, and the parents who contribute to the annual fund, to pay for the difference between a new and used car.

Your monthly grocery bill is high. You really shouldn’t need to spend $500 a week.

But the main thing is you bought more car than you can afford if you want to sent your kids to private. That’s the bottom line. Sure, it’s not unreasonable to prioritize a reliable new car, that’s your choice. But you chose it over private education.

That new car depreciated the moment you drove it off the lot. You can get a reliable certified used car with <10k miles on it for a lot less.

$500 a week on groceries is insane. With two teenage boys we spend an average of $250 a week shopping at the Giant, Costco, and Aldi.

$210k income here. We buy slightly used cars for cash after driving ours into the ground.

What kind of cars are you buying? I assume you're spending at least 30k.

I can't afford to put money away anymore. What i did save went to school.

We have no financial troubles and live well. Getting back to OP, they are a financial dumpster fire and do not deserve financial aid.

No, the car I drive currently is a 2022 Hyundai Tucson, which I bought with 12,000 miles on it. We paid just under $19,000 for it.

We drive cars for a very long time and put money away during that time in order to pay cash when we next need a car.

I thought your kids were in public school?

Yes, we eat healthy. No one in our house is a vegetarian.

I do not have the time or energy to share a grocery list and meal plan, but there is absolutely no way that you need to be spending so much money on groceries.
