SAT/ACT is important so the schools can brag about a high 25/75, AP tests less so as they dont enter into the equation of a schools prestige
which sucks as my kid has 1470 but all 5s in tough subjects like calculus BC, AP Comp A and Spanish |

Sara Harberson is pretty adamant that you only submit 5s and maybe 4s in areas that you’re not majoring in… her advice for kids with 4s and 3s only is not to submit any scores at all. She says that kids who follow this advice have had great success. Not sure what “success” means in this context.
Our public prepares kids well for the exams so majority have 4s and 5s so when I (as a parent with no professional admissions knowledge) see scores of 3s, there’s clearly a knowledge gap. Our public is also tough on grades so we get no benefit from grade inflation… sigh. My DC has lots of friends who received a B in the class but scored 5s on the exams. |
You’re so close to seeing it. A school that cares about having strong students on campus (and a lot of them do), but which is trying to preserve its ability to brag about its 25/75 SAT scores, will be delighted to see your kid apply test optional with those AP scores. |
| Of course they matter. |
Because you said so? |
