Anonymous wrote:$500 minimum is right, OP. Don’t listen to the posters who claim this is ridiculous. They are out of touch. Everything is super expensive now. I have a nine month old and buy her clothes on sale and offseason and we have still spent over $1k since she was born because of seasonal Purchases. Patagonia buys back stuff after kids outgrow jackets so that is a way to get a little help every season buying a high quality coat.

It’s your choice to spend $1k on a baby’s clothes. Don’t make it sound like it’s normal. Patagonia?

This is DCUM. Of course it’s normal. I want my infant to be warm in the winter. A down bunting suit is needed. Patagonia is actually really reasonable for such an item. I’m not going to buy her fast fashion either. It’s low quality and bad for the planet.

In this area, they'd rarely need that and it cannot be used in a car seat. Blanket works better.

Again, people are really outing themselves as people who don’t actually live here. We live in the city. We are never in the car. Our child needs to be warm in the stroller because we actually live in DC. People who don’t actually live in this area need to keep it moving. Don’t be a poor.

There are a lot of suburban people here and are definitely in the car.

WTF does don’t be a poor mean? It doesn’t sound like an adult is posting.

So far my 12yo DD has gotten 2 hoodies ($80 each), 2 pairs of shorts ($60 each), one pair of sweats ($50), 3 long sleeve tops ($20 each) and one new pair of Adidas ($110). She needs some nicer clothes and shoes for holidays and family events coming up but we haven’t gotten there just yet. Her winter coat of choice, North Face, costs around $200. She will also get a new pair of Uggs at some point which are around $150 I think.

These are prices from Aerie, Abercrombie, Hollister, Pac Sun and Brandi Melville, so not even crazy over the top stores (excluding the hoodies and coat).

Uggs will be back?? Say it ain’t so!

Same, except they get less every year after 14. Now 18 and I rarely buy clothes for them. It encouraged them to get job and buy their own clothes/shoes.

DP here. Why? That's not a priority for me at all.

We only buy cotton though.

I don't really think about it I just do it and hopefully smartly. I have a son and three daughters so hand me downs really help with the girls. My son is growing like a weed but he is happy to wear soccer shirts and jeans. I'm not a clothes horse myself so that influences what I do.

I have an almost-12 year old DD who likes all those same stores, and this seems very reasonable to me. Except the shorts -- are you sure you meant that you bought two pairs of shorts that each cost $60??? From where??

There's the difference between us - I would not spend $80 on a hoodie for a 12 yr old (or even myself!) or over $100 on sneakers, and wouldn't spend $200 (or even $100 on a winter coat).
