| Association clean functioning infrastructure with fascism doesn't send the message you think it might. Note how, whether they will admit it or not, people became a lot more ok with fascism over the last 5 years. |
It's OK. We know you have trailer park expectations. DC sure seems to be the stomping groups for a gutter class of people who enjoy the scenery of strung out junkies on their way to work, and who enjoy wallowing in utterly filthy bathrooms at the station after strolling by a whole bunch of boarded up and abandoned shops. |
Well you see republicans hate mass transportation. So they have defunded for over 40 years. This is why the US infrastructure is so pathetic. It is republicans’ fault. Now Trump and idiots like you think the US military will improve it. What the f are you thinking? |
I'm there daily and it's fine. Not dangerous, not "an open sewer." Is it a shopping center with good retail options? No. It's a transit hub. It has fast food and gift shops for the people killing an hour between trains. |
You seem really obsessed with empty storefronts. Do you think a military takeover = commercial tenants? Aren't you the free market people? (LOL, kidding, I know you hate a free market) |
I don't think you've been there in a while. I was just there picking up my kids from a NYC trip and it was a lot better than it was even just a year or so ago. There are new shops opening up, they've created a nice passenger waiting room, and got rid of the chairs by the gates. |
Clearly you've never been anywhere nice in your life. The station is dumpsville USA. Why do Americans have expectations that are in the gutter. Train stations across the world are transit hubs where people may be for an hour or less, so? Go see how much better they are than dumpy Union Station. |
|
I agree that several of you don't seem to have actual knowledge of Union Station. I was just there on Monday night returning from NYC around 9pm. I am a woman and was traveling alone. It was fine. I was also there earlier this year to travel to NYC and it was fine then, too. Ditto for last year.
This is nothing more than another power grab by Trump. It would be refreshing if he actually focused his efforts on things in this country that need intervention. |
I was at Union Station back in March. Before even being able to enter into the station you were slammed in the face with plumes of weed smoke. Then there were multiple instances of being harassed by homeless junkies for money. Once inside, I went to bluebottle to pay for overpriced coffee, however, the counters were filthy and there was debris everywhere. Walk to the trains and there is just grime and filth everywhere. Trash strewn on the floors. The best part was going to the bathrooms. A homless guy who reeked to high heaven and who was out of his mind walks out of the stall with his pants down. I had no idea humans were capable of smelling like that. The cherry on top is of course having the train 34 minutes delayed because nothing ever runs on time. Just a nasty, gross station that needs a deep steam clean from top to bottom. |
Because for decades Republicans with constituents in rural districts have voted to make our country like the third world by eradicating or defunding government efforts in infrastructure, education, healthcare, science, and housing. It’s literally happening right now with the “Big Beautiful Bill” and DOGE. Trump’s haphazard “takeovers” of various public spaces are similar to the propaganda efforts by other dictators and will have similar lousy results. This isn’t about improvement or efficiency or data-driven decision making, it’s about pasting his picture all over the place and pleasing his fans. |
| Also, does no one remember Republican reactions to Obama’s infrastructure plans and how enraged they were over trains? |
Oh, yes, the maga Cracker Barrel cousins are the ones we should be taking direction from. |
I’d guess if you are dumb enough to not see the parallels you aren’t really worth much consideration, are you? More scum that’s more concerned about the trains running on time. |
If you don't live here and talk out of your ass, just SFTU. |
|
I take the train from Union station at least a dozen times a year. Maybe more. I was there this morning.
It's yucky and dingy. The homeless people and panhandlers have to go. The bathrooms are revolting. |
