Anyone teach their kids to swim all on their own?

I bought this but couldn’t quite figure out how to get my DC to use it. How do you attach it to them? And how should it fit?

My 3 year old can swim on her own, in the deep end. The trick is having a pool. She’s out there everyday.

Also I’ve never allowed floaties or life jackets outside of being in open water. We don’t even own floaties, or that weird contraption above that definitely doesn’t work.
