Things are generally made with cheaper parts and planned obsolescence now, but a few things last.

Washing machine in basement from 1923 still worked. But it was still simple. You filled it hose from sink ran it, then drained water to sink, filled up again to rinse, drained again . Then wringer on double sink to wring out clothes then a clothesline in unfinished basement around furnace to dry clothes. Older things also had less moving parts. Less to break

Simplicity is definitely one of the key concepts in durable and long lasting products. Way too much computer junk on items these days. It's done on purpose also. The public should be enraged.

I have a washer from the 70s in my last house. We hadn't sold that house yet when we moved into the new one and I hated the low water one at the new place so much I hired someone to swap them for me before I sold the first house. The 70s one is still going strong. Meanwhile, our 5 year old mid-range Bosch dishwasher died this year, we tried to repair it, but ultimately it needed to be replaced.
