School with a similar look/feel to College of Charleston?

Son with similar stats is at Davidson. Loves it. Applied ED and never looked back. We’re in VA and his second choice was William & Mary. Wasn’t interested in NE schools.

omg, no to UCSB which is in the middle of a gigantic homeless encampment. UCLA has palms, sun, and 100,000 people.

Loyola Marymount, the actual school, does not offer the intellectual millieu

Tulane was a solid suggestion, sort of. Rice checks some of the boxes. But it’s not adjacent to an adorable city that is on the National Register of Historic Places. There’s also the beach problem

Vanderbilt has a southern look and quads with heritage magnolias. But of course it’s landlocked. And the surrounding city is not at all historic and more.

This may be the dumbest thing I've ever read on DCUM. Good job.

Don't get the Davidson suggestions, it is absolutely nothing like College of Charleston.

It’s hyperbole but not far from the truth.

The water is freezing near SV, so it’s mostly surfers or people in wet suits.

Heck, I lived along the coast near LA for 4 years and it was hard to stay in the water for long for most of the year without a wet suit.

People are constantly in the water. Maybe you're really sensitive, but I've never heard this description of the Pacific. Is it cold? yeah, it's an ocean.

These schools are nothing like Charleston.

Having visited both schools, I see similarities between CoC and Tulane in that they are both pretty campuses in charming cities that a lot of young people are drawn too. Tulane is obviously a lot more difficult to get into. I bet Miami is similar.

That being said, I agree with the person who said CoC could also be a great school to go to. Some of these schools mentioned above are highly rejective schools no matter how good your stats.

I can see why - wow - so adorable! I fear though that the school is probably not a good fit/choice (kid is high stats; 4.0 unweighted in highest rigor classes/APs; 1550 SAT and wants to do STEM). Would the honors college there raise the level? Any suggestions for schools with similar charm/adjacent cute shops and restaurants? Preferably not too cold a climate?

Smitten you raised an idiot,

No college is not about charm it’s about education and sending a girl to SC in this political climate is insane and horrible parenting.

Wow. I'm hoping you, PP, are not raising kids to be this narrow minded and hateful.

Oh, that's just the resident troll. Feel free to report her.

Ok, tell us all about swimming in the ocean in the Bay area then! How does that work while avoiding hypothermia?

+1 I'm not surprised he loves it! The Davidson campus, town, students, and academic rigor are amazing!

What does “academic rigor [is] amazing” even mean

In San Diego in August, sure. But not in the Bay Area without a wet suit at any point in the year.

MY OOS kid loves UNCW. Had thought he wanted to go to Charleston. I added UNCW as a second stop after Charleston and his mind was instantly switched.
He liked the more defined campus and felt access to the beach was easier.

Also he didnt realize until touring but didnt love all the charleston tourists blending in with the campus
