Daily Mail had it on the front page. |
Who cares if he apologizes? The one time he did (the access Hollywood tape) he clearly didn't mean it. |
So who is he hanging out with that’s throwing this term around? |
It's worse when you read his response. "Trump says he had ‘never heard’ Shylock as an anti-semitic term after using it at rally" https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/04/politics/trump-iowa-rally-antisemitic-term |
He pardoned Jared's father who, unbelievably, is even more despicable than trump. |
I wonder if he knows the word "Usury"? The University of Pennsylvania has a lot to answer for. |
Excuse me, excuse me.
It’s not about the Jews, It’s not Jewish, It’s not the Jews. Shylock, It’s called a Shylock. Some people call it a forelock, Tugging your forelock. They call it tugging your forelock, Just so you understand. |
The Nazis appropriated The Merchant of Venice character "Shylock" as their prototype of Jews. Of course trump knew exactly what he was doing. |
Come on, you know he's lying |
But *you* know he's stupid. It's a real conundrum. |
1. I agree this phrase is antisemitic.
2. The incredibly common phrase "pound of flesh" is just as antisemitic; in fact, the character Shylock in Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice sets the effective collateral for a loan as a pound of flesh. 3. Which is more anti-semitic? Well, in context, referring to bankers as Shylock (who is an infamous banker) has some theoretical degree of coherence even without express resort to the antisemitic overtones. The same cannot be said for "pound of flesh" which is used far more routinely. In that respect, it's a little weird to make a news story out of "Shylock" while staying silent when the phrase "pound of flesh" is used (a not infrequent occurrence). 4. Is it really believable that Trump was unaware of the antisemitic context surround shylock? No, I don't think so. Its obscurity and its ickiness strike me as comparable, so if you know the word, you probably know it's bad. 5. Would this be national news if, say, Hillary Clinton or Cory Booker said it? Cant imagine. Then again, it's easier to imagine trump affirmatively wanting to do a dog whistle, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. 6. On balance, I think this is just one more data point for why trump is a bad guy, but it's not crazy to think the people in this thread vowing to continue to "fight" or condemning the press as some how complicit are maybe doing a bit much. |
Trump direct care. He sold her to the highest bidder. |
She’s not Jewish, she simply learned some things about the religion and raises her kids Jewish. She didn’t grow up Jewish. She doesn’t have Jewish DNA. She’s a phony. Shylocks is an antisemitic slur. It’s hateful. Let’s see if those Jewish organizations targeting anyone who protest the killing of Palestinians speak up. |
You think 🤔 |
