I actually don’t find it surprising. Some parents create an environment where their kids feel safe sharing almost anything. I have this relationship with my daughters and I'm grateful. They see me as their mom, but also as someone they can trust to vent to or to get advice from. They know I won’t judge them, so they’ll often come home and share what happened, big or small, without me prying.
I'm also that house where their friends like to go to and many of them feel more comfortable talking to me than their own parents.
