Eh we weren’t impressed with Mammoth. We loved New River Gorge in WV. Or Banff Canada. |
deep creek lake and renting a pontoon is fun. Pittsburgh is supposed to be fun |
I love NYC…but not in the summertime. NYC is a great weekend trip in the fall or spring.
If your kids still talk about Puerto Rico, then they likely enjoyed the beach (and perhaps the two forts in Old San Juan coupled with the beautiful architecture and vibe and El Yunque). You can’t replicate that in area mountains imho. If they enjoyed the beach, then take them to the beach. If budget is an issue, post a budget and ask for tips. I’d go to the DE/MD beaches. No need to spend a lot of time driving further. Most kids hate long drives. Imho the key to memorable trips for kids is keeping them entertained with things they like…which is often different from what some adults like. |
That's exactly what OP wants to do. Just visit on a short trip. Maybe our August trips were so memorable the smell didn't bother us. We did a medium amount of walking through Manhattan and my kids did a bike tour. The subway can be gross...we saw pizza rat's little brother. Back to amazing...I have my eye on this ticket for my next August visit. https://experiencetheride.com/ |
Could you do a few small things instead of one place for a week? Like a few days in Boston, do the Duck Boats, the Aquarium, the Freedom Trail if your kids are into History. Then a day in Newport RI with the mansion tours, or go into NH and go up to Conway in the White Mountains? Pick another New England town as you head back home? |
Agree with Chicago. The Willis Tower sky deck, Field Science Museum, great art museums, Boat tours (River Architecture Tour or Lake Sunset tours). Great outdoor options and fun food. Plus beaches! |
Sunset beach NC |
I still remember Philadelphia and seeing the Liberty Bell when I was a kid. Seeing all of the revolutionary war stuff there, and all of the history, was amazing. |
Yep. Was up at Big Meadows on Memorial Day weekend, and came home with two ticks on me. |
Chicago dogs and deep dish pizza! I lived there for 10 years, and the first place I go when I get back is either Wiener’s Circle or Lou Malnati‘s. The Art Institute is one of my favorite museums in the world. The aquarium is great as well. |
We did new river gorge and smoky mountains for spring break. I really wqnt ro go back to new river gorge during the summer. Kids can go white water Rafting, jet boats, bridge walk, rock climbing, zip lining. Plus lots of fun hikes. |
The Adirondacks are beautiful. We loved lake placid. |
+1 for Luray |
Chicago is not East Coast. |
