Wake Forest and how it's viewed, especially in NC

Most NC would choose in-state because it’s cheap, but some that can afford it will choose WF or whatever other state’s equivalent as they like what it has to offer and the size may be better for their student versus a large public. No one questions anyone choosing an average public and defends its the student not the school, yet many privates get heat for no good reason.

The only reason I could see this info being useful is if someone’s OOS DC is hoping/planning to stay in NC after graduation and wants to know how the job market will perceive/value a Wake degree compared to the other schools mentioned.

Well if that’s the question, as someone that does a lot of hiring, WF is wonderful. If staying in NC the network is huge for UNC/NCSU.

Clearly op is one of the WF hating trolls looking to have fun. There are a few on this board that regularly start WF threads.

It’s Duke, Davidson, and Wake among privates.

Agree.

No on Davidson. Sorry no.

^Duke by a huge margin then the other 2. Interesting times at UNC in athletics department not helping their image.

It's just a prestige thing - considered much more selective than Wake. But it's not everyone's cup of tea, that's for sure.

I view it as a rich kid school. Kind of like Vanderbilt.

Yes, but much lower in prestige. Like a Tulane, U-Miami or SMU. Though probably ranked higher than those 3?

Rich kid schools outside T20 (in order of prestige):

USC
Wake
U-Miami
SMU
Tulane

Does that seem right?

Yikes. This seems ominous. What does it mean?

It’s hard to compare as a hit apples and oranges as Davidson is small. Duke is obviously comfortably at the top, then Davidson but has limited appeal, follows by Wake Forest, and then Elon which is a great school for average students. I would say all are more loved by oos, Carolina and NCSU win the popular vote.

Might insert BC after Wake but slightly ahead of Miami

I don’t know any people who look down their noses at Wake and I have several UNC and Duke alumni as relatives.

No offense…but what other NC schools are there, especially if you claim they are behind Davidson?

I guess ahead of Elon, Highpoint and ECU et al?

NC State. As the kids at Duke say, “if you can’t go to college, go to State.”

This comment sums up why I’d never send my kid to Duke.

That type of snobbery is way out of date. As in circa 1990. And my understanding is that it’s actually an old UNCCH taunt from the 80s ….

No one, and I mean no one, calls it UNCCH. It’s either Carolina or Chapel Hill or UNC. Please stop. So when people write UNCCH it shows they don’t really know the school (or area) at all.
