1/2 day Wed for 2025-25 school year?

For those saying no worries if have more days off bc have built in snow days -remember that Reid reduced # of snow days which is why there was such a push when snowed this last school year to still run buses- it was NOT bc they wanted to make sure to educate kids but that Reid left no real buffer.

And what was done in 2012 was done, but that does not mean it “worked.” I am comfortable having my kid in after school care for 2 hours a day, not 5.

Okay, trying to make sure I've got this: all elementary schools will have 1/2 Wednesdays every week next year?

no. still limited early release like this year. She said, it will be formally communicated to families VERY soon.

Reid blamed- and she did specifically blame Governor literacy laws for why FCPS *HAD* to do shortened Mondays (even though every other school district in Va figured out how to implement without that). Know that blame story is history and it’s about teacher planning time and incredulously blaming too many Monday holidays- that they set! And all the while if look at School Board slides from last night the budget cuts they list are blamed on ONLY getting $118 million MORE in funds for next year than last year budget- yes, FCPS getting $118 million more than last year and all slides say FCPS cutting this and that and then include statements that this cut will impact FCPS school ratings and ability to support the kids….

I would like a board slide of ALL Gatehouse employees and their current salaries and titles (don’t need actual names) and new salaries after their 7% increase and how many direct reports they have. Another post here or in the salaries thread talked about how Reid has added SO many more admin layers and that’s not visible. How much were all of the MS start time surveys- Reid says consultant has been engaged 2 years and outcome at board meeting is not sure how to do it. What is final $ cost of the Hayfield mess that Reid allowed to go on and on and is still going on? So many ways to have handled the $.

Reid sent out Hayfield messages same day and some times multiple a day to every FCPS parent address, but keeping 1/2 days and moving when they are was communicated to school board last night as beyond done deal, but nope, nothing ES families- despite Reid even talking at meeting that the school calendar is “locked” and how important for parents to know in advance.

What's the concern as long as they are providing childcare? You can still go to yoga class and have lunch with your besties!

Why can't we just shorten the school day and let teachers have 30 minutes at the end of every day for planning?

Do you seriously think it’s only 7 days? Do you not see where this is going? What it looks like to me is that they’re going to do it every week.

You didn't watch the video, mama, she said "limited".

I'm a different poster who did watch it, and I don't believe it's not ultimately going to more days because the Monday stuff she said didn't make sense, like I stated before. They do whatever they want, spin it like it's good for us, and change it whenever they want, and then spin that differently. My issue is I don't trust her.

+1 there’s no agreed-upon definition of “limited” in this case. They could have an early release every other week and call it “limited.” All this after they said this year’s early releases were due to teacher training and now that the entire region is back to working 8:30-5 in office like it’s 1999 again. It’s tone deaf and shady.

Will there be the option for kids to stay again?

“Mama”?

Read this:

Consider this:

“Any action that brings the school system into disrepute may be just cause for dismissal.”
